Ratting: Legion or Zealot?

Hi guys, just wondering what you guys prefer for 0.0 ratting.. Do i spend the 600mil on a Legion or 120mil on a Zealot?

Which is more efficient with cost/return?
Is the legion's tank THAT much better than the zealots?

In my experience, Legion with faction crystals and pulse guns will do the job quite well. Of course, if you got no one in local, go for it. I'm having fun with my Legion in angel space as well. (I would go to Amarr Space but something about -6.3 standings with the amarr say no. P )

Angels have high EM / Therm Resists so if you can swing it you would be better off ratting in a Cane / Drake, Raven / Maelstrom pretty much anything that puts out Kin / Exp even if your DPS is a little lower. Even a Sacrilege would be better for straight up belt ratting with a Web / Painter for Frigates.

Ratting you do not need to worry that much about tank unless you are doing Exploration and Anoms.

yeah this is an alt, my main is a drake/tengu pilot. So you are saying that the cost of a legion really isn't worth ratting? unless I will be doing Anoms and Plexes?

No I am saying that it isn't worth if you can fly anything that can put out good kin / therm. Legion will get the job done in Belts and Anoms where the Zealot might not have the tank for Anoms just slower then other options.

Here is a chart of all Asteroid Angel Rats. Take a look at their resists and decide if you have any better Ships for the job.

OP, Alara is right. You really don't want to be shooting lasers at angels. A Sacrilege might do you although even its dps is somewhat anemic.

You are probably best off crosstraining. A drone boat or missile boat, or projectile ship will do the best against angels. And a shield tank has a natual advantage. You could combine a shield tank on a drone boat, Domi or rattler, an ishtar runs into cpu problems. But the easiest route would be training projectile guns and using a mael or macharial or using a caldari shield tanking missile ship.

430 dps with T1 missiles, 540 dps with rage. TP and Web to apply it. 18-20km range is fine for angels. Amarr T2 resists naturally help in ratting against Angels, so a 3 slot tank gives 470 dps sustained.

I used this on some Level 4 missions to fix some sec and standings issues, and it barely got tested. "Ratting" is pretty generic a term, but if you mean belt ratting, you're more than fine. It's a lot cheaper than a HAM legion or Tengu.

you are better off with a heavy pulse harbinger or drake. Get some resists going so you can tank.

No idea how they are in nul, but a single rep "Omen navy issue" does a good job in C1-C3 Wh's.....

If it is just for belt ratting, the tank doesn't really matter(you can do Angels with 1 EANM and a cheap c-type small rep) and the dps of the Zealot and Legion are pretty close without to much pimp. Angeles are bearable with Conflag and 4 HS in both ships, however a Harbinger, Abaddon or Geddon(or any other BC/BS that can do kin or explosive damage) would be much more effective.

The Sac actually isn't much faster, since the a proper fitted Zealot will deal like 700+ DPS and can handle BCs, Cruisers and Frigs already up to 40+ km with scorch(since the high EM resists are only a problem on the 800k+ BS).
