How did becoming rich in eve online change the game for you. Did it change it for the better? Was there any difference in playing from the psychological standpoint? Did you change the way to the way you played the game? Or did it result in the game becoming more boring?

Rich in this context would start at around the 5 billion isk mark (including assets) which is 10 times the average wallet. I would include assets but there is no hard numbers for that.

Why put a goal? I see the sky is the limit on wallet size. One you get there, keep making ISK. My advice is use the larger wallet to make even more ISK. Profit usually ratios with the ISK put in to make ISK. In basic terms, more ISK you have, the more you should be making. Here is rich in my terms: Making Billions In A Day, Everyday!

Well, 5bill Im sure isnt 10 times the avg wallet bc of corp wallet and various other reasons.

That notwithstanding, I feel like I can squash the common player like a bug and don't tend to condescend to acknowleging the common player.

And that I can pvp without consequence.

It has generally allowed me the freedom to make ISK from more passive sources, such as bulk trading, so I no longer have to try and play x number of hours per week or I won't have any ISK to do anything. Once you have 3+ Billion ISK, it seems like it's much easier to make more. I have more time to move orders around, etc.

If I want to PvP, I'll go PvP. If I feel like running a mission for the heck of it, I will. If I want to wardec someone, I can - but as long as I keep at least 3-4 Billion ISK aside that I don't spend, I don't need to really "work" for more that much if I don't feel like it.

Lately, I've been looking at starting an exciting venture with a few friends (and an alt or two that I will finally give a little time to on the skill queue). I *might* have one investor at the moment, but be prepared for a possible post on MD for more start-up capital if required :)

Didn't change a thing for me, although I hardly consider myself rich anymore. Laziness/Apathy combined with inflation you know.

When did 5 billion suddenly become 'rich', especially when you also include assets which would be defined as 'poor'?

Back when I was still hustling around to earn ISK, 5 billion in the wallet and orders was average. When I became rich, in the real sense of the word, I stopped undocking and rarely logging in.

It's been a long time since I reached the 5b mark (my best guess would be late 2006) so it's difficult to remember what changes, if any, crossing that specific line had on my EVE experience.

Personally, I haven't found the game to be any less interesting or challenging as a result of increased wealth. Actually, I think the opposite is the case and I've had more options and more challenges available to me as I add each zero to the end of my NAV figure. I very much doubt I'll cross the next line in to tens of trillions, but that will not stop me trying.

i have 70b in wallet and if if u include assets that will be over 100b. and if u then add the vale of my 131m sp toon which say a conservative figure of 60b. thats come to 160b and i barley play the game now. for me its got boring, I can now easily make another 100b in less time and I can't be bothered. I let new opportunity go as isk becomes less important.

i think the ability to make isk a lot faster kinda killed the game as it feels you won it. you can buy anything and loose anything. i gave away 10b last week. i made 15b since then back. but i think isk. effects different people in different ways.

The best time i have ever had was the first year of playing eve. then it went down hill.

my advise is don;t make to much isk. stay between 5-15b and you will enjoy the game more Big smile
yep I am wining about having to much isk, aint that a *****

Has you ever went so far as chose to go even use want to look more like do?

Getting rich didn't really change the game too much for me as my time profile and family committments meant I couldn't really use the isk for anything other than making more isk. So I didn't have the issue of feeling that challenges had gone as far as getting into ships and losing stuff was concerned. I initially had my eye on hitting 100bil as a target that would satisfy me but I got to that level after six months or so in the game and revised my target up to a trillion. However, it slowly dawned on me that this was going to be more of an endurance sport than fun. I wasn't earning the isk for any reason than as 'points' representing my score in eve and this rapidly loses meaning if the challenges to get those points cease to be fun. The critical point for me came not with an amount of money but with a way of making money.

When I realised that I could make more than 3bil a day, day in day out for the rest of my time in eve without having to put any more thought into it, the challenge was gone. I think I pretty much maxed out possible isk/hour returns so doing anything different to make isk would have been a step down and there didn't appear to be any further steps up. Of course, there is the kinetic pleasure of finding different ways to make isk in different configurations of time, effort, capital invested and such like but its all a bit academic when you can already have as much of it as you want and far more than you could enjoyably spend. The challenge, for me, has gone and whilst there is fun to be had in investigations I don't find the same sense of satisfaction. And I'm certainly never going to punish myself by mindlessly grinding the same perfect business plan for months at a time to get isk I don't need. The remaining satisfying things in the game are those that come from human interaction, helping other people out and seeing them flourish.

I hardly consider that rich. That's having adequate capital to run a decent trade operation. 100B+ is rich in my book. So there you go, your perception of rich shifts to ever higher and higher targets.

If u included assets ithe 'rich'mark probably hits betwee 6 to 10 billion which is not a lot more. A little fyi guys. A study showed that most millionaires didn't feel rich and felt that double their money would be comfortable and entering the rich mark even though they hold wealth above the majority of people by multiple times and they were by definition rich.

at the 5b mark very little changed for me but that would be a fair while ago and would involve a 5 minute lucky spell when I found Estamel Tharcon. She treated me very well.

As I got richer I wanted to make more money so I used to split my time between PVP and looking for faction/officer spawns.

When I reached a point of having around 15b in the bank I added building supercaps into that equation.

I lost a fair bit on that with the nerf but right now I have around 15b isk and around 35b assets and whilst I don;t class that as anything like rich, it has changed my game play in that I continue to try and make more money through building stuff and invention in empire rather undocking my 0.0 pvp character.

It could also be that I prefer smaller gang type (i.e. 5 - 15 in gang) pvp and everywhere just seems blobs on that front these days, even if said blob is only a 30 man gang set up to come and kill you.

I don't think getting rich bores anyone. I think it's running out of new challenges and experiences that does that. This is more likely to happen to you if you have a narrow play style.

What did it change?I think nothing , i lost a big part of my interest in the game a long time ago and now just play because of a lack of anything wich suits me better.I doubt though it has anything to do with more isk but mostly is because i have been playing this game for a long long time.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

I have done serious trading for about 7 months now. That brought me from 4 bil total value (which I got mainly from missioning) to about 30-40 bil total value.

At 5 bil I was just starting trading and at 10 bil I just continued as before. But at 20+ bil game did change a lot. For better. And less boring.

First I got second account for 2nd trader. Now I could dualbox and have chars in two trading hubs, instead of autopilotting (with empty cargo of course) between them as I used to do. Trading got a lot more efficient and demanded less of my time.

Then I got 3rd account for non-trading activities. So that I could triplebox, keeping my traders earning me ISK, while I used this 3rd account for whatever else I want to do. Earlier I had to undock my trader and stop earning ISK when I wanted to do anything else, but now with dedicated account my trading again got more efficient, while giving me ability to also do something else without hurting my profits. (As a bonus my traders who never need to undock are now safe from wardecs.)

As my wealth increases, I need less time to actually update my orders to keep income at level which can sustain my playstyle. So I can use more time for something else. Also being able to train 3 characters at once makes it more interesting to plan skills than with just single char.

I like helping new players, and having more ISK gives more opportunities to help. On christmas I gave PLEX for one newbie as a gift. Few times I've given "21+30 day buddy invites" since I can afford to lose that PLEX in case I get scammed. If I see someone asking for ISK or ship in chat I can do so if I want.

And losing ships is not a problem. I can afford to lose practically any ship I can fly.
