Has anyone a good idea of the current mechanics for moving Contraband?

Can the Orca still haul Contraband without ever being scanned?

customs can see in the CHA of an orca now. that was fixed a couple patches ago in fact. Other than that I have no experience or insight to lend.

You cannot hide contraband anymore.

So there are two ways to move it now:
Fly it in an interceptor/covert ops/blockade runner. You will get scanned, fined, and lose standings with the empire you are flying in. However, unless you screw up and AFK at a stargate, the customs agents will not be able to target you before you are in warp. Also, the fines and standings losses are very small. Run a storyline mission when you are done, and you will be back to normal.

If the fines and standings losses are unacceptable to you, you can use a scout to check both sides of each stargate to see if there are customs agents present. Have the hauler character hide in a safespot in each system. Only warp to the stargate and through after you verify there are no customs agents around. When you do find customs agents on your intended route, you can try to find an alternate route, or have the hauler log off for a few hours and try again. Obviously, this method will take much longer than the first.

1. Alt with an Empty Wallet
2. Fast Aligning Ship
3. ?????
4. Profit.

Alt will tank standings and may end up with a negative wallet balance, but who cares.

I think CCP did mention they were going to look at the high-sec smuggling/contraband profession. But I imagine it's fairly low on the list of things do be done/fixed.

Would be nice to be able to 'free' slaves as well. Or to have that situation elaborated on. Smile

Confirming using disposable alts which are agaisn't the GM rules are the only way to fix a completely broken game mechanic anyway.

Disposing of the alt and/or recycling it may be against the rules. Keeping it and accepting the hassle that it takes to move that alt, the inability for the alt to use contracts or the market (you need another toon anywhere this one needs to offload cargo), etc is perfectly legit.

They will also need to use a corp hangar to transfer the items since you can't trade with a negative balance either. A want to buy contract from your main to the alt won't work either because of having less than the 0 isk "you will receive".

I did not know that neg wallets couldn't station trade(actually thought that was the one way you could trade). In that case, I suggest trading via jetcan in a safespot so you don't have to rent offices everywhere.

I have never smuggled deep into empire, but where I am (jumping from .3 to .5), there are not always customs officers at the gates. If I have contraband, I just jet can it, check the gate, then go pick it up if it is clear.

I have wondered whether I could pull the customs agents off one gate to another, but have never tried to manipulate them. I just know that they are not always present.

Is contraband profitable? From what I have seen the buy orders are way lower then the sell pricing

Yes. Depends on where you buy it vs sell it.
