What benefits does a fresh character get nowadays?

I haven't made a new character in years, thinking of getting myself an alt finally. What kind of bonuses do fresh pod pilots get nowadays? And is it possible to account for these in an EVEMon plan?

You start out with 50k SP and get 2 bonus remaps. Currently, there is no special offer like free ships or cerebral accelerators, altrhough the latter are available on contracts for ~200 mill isk (only work for 35 days if you start a fresh account though).

There's not even an increased SP rate until a certain amount like there was at some point iirc?

There are no learning skills to waste time on, you can start with "useful" stuff from the start.

Nope - there isn't - but having started a fresh account recently, I can say that after learnings are gone and having 3 remaps available within the first year, it's ****-easy and quick to train an alt nowadays.

However I'd suggest waiting for some special offer again - I only created the account anyway because I tend to go for early January starting dates because people often just look at the year when estimating SP.

Sorry to double post, but didn't feel like this was worth a separate thread: How exactly does the Cerebral Accelerator work? Does it take up an implant slot or do you just Right Click->Use and it's essentially a booster that lasts 35 days? It seems like getting a set of +3 implants on top of the +3 bonus from this might be well worth the 200m, but I suppose that's relative to how much isk you have. P

It's a booster.

If you weren't in a rush to start the alt, I would petition and ask them if they're going to offer the power of two promotion any time in the near future. It's an offer for active account holders in which you pay two plex or a fee of around 30 dollars (that number may be off a bit) for six months of time on an alt account. Definitely a good deal and my corpmates have told me that they run it every few months. I know it was around when I came back from a break right before Incarna was released so they may be doing it in very soon.

If you wait for the special promotions or even use a buddy invite on yourself you can train up a decent alt very cheap.

I had a 60 day trial buddy invite, if the new account created from the buddy invite activates you get a free month or a free PLEX on the account that sent the invite. So if you buy a PLEX of the market and use it to activate the account you get a PLEX on the account that sent the invite as a reward. By activating a trial account right away you get the trial time plus the month paid with the PLEX (can be up to 90 days inf you use a 60 day trial buddy invite) without the penalty of the skills that can not be trained on a trial account. And with the PLEX used to activate the account being basically replaced with the reward PLEX or account time you can get up to 90 days training on a new alt for free.

When the new account reaches the end of the trial+30 days paid time you can either sell the character on the bazaar. A cyno/mining/hauling/research/PI alt will usually sell well and can be trained in just a few months. Or you can transfer the character to an account you plan on keeping active for 10 bucks.Or you might decide you like having the extra alt account and keep it active.

I think CCP makes this option available just for the fact that so many end up keeping the alt account active it is worth the wasted resources on the accounts that do not.

PS. the cerebral accelerator was free for all new accounts but could only be plugged in to new characters on new accounts. Once the toon is 35 days old it stops working. Not sure if you still get it or if it was just a promotion.

Here's what you should do if you want to start an additional account and train a new alt. Send a buddy trial invite from your existing account to your e-mail address and use the link in that e-mail to start the new trial account. This is so that when you turn the new trial into a full account, your main account will be rewarded with a PLEX.

When you are ready to turn the trial account into a full account, you can do this with a Commissioned Officer Edition Time Code, which will give you the free Cerebral Accelerator. I know some GTC vendors, like Shattered Crystal, still have some of these officer edition time codes for sale. Don't just pay $20 direct to CCP with your credit card.

The Cerebral Accelerator is like a booster and it goes in booster slot 4. It will stack with any attribute implants you have plugged in.

Thanks for the advice, I wound up doing the Buddy Program thing and bought an Accelerator off of contracts. Bear
