When lots of people got angry at Netflix for being jagoffs in a manner similar to the recent NeX shenanigans, the CEO of Netflix (along with a lot of other people at the company) sat back and tried to figure out why everyone was grabbing their torches and pitchforks, so they could fix the problem.

I thought this made for some pretty great comparison reading.

Yeah, sounds like a smart move. Hope it works.

What gets me is people blame Netflix for the poor selection in streaming. That isn't Netflix but the Big Hollywood Industry getting greedy as well as Big Cable losing to competition.

Big Cable (Time Warner) = Warner Bros

Cable industry is seeing massive drop off in customers and Internet only. Now, they try to stave off this rash by bandwidth capping and pulling content licenses from competitors.

This is the second time I've seen parallels between Netflix and CCP.

Why? The attempt at any kind of business/financial analogy is not correct and customer complaint are company bashing analogies are part of life. I could list 10,000 companies who pissed off their customers with price hikes, changes in terms of service.

So what?

So the comparison is shown between what should have been done, the CEO came out, apologized and explained himself.

What happened with the big yellow question? and the mass unsubs? CCP threw their heads in the sand, as CCP Pann herself admitted, and Hilmar wrote a motivational email to his employees dismissing peoples complaining, and CCP even tried to justify the price of nex with $1000 jeans.

Edit: Hopefully though CCP getting their **** togethef now, and securing FiS for the future!!!!!!!!!!!

CCP pissed players off by giving up iteration, shifting development from spaceships and the core game into something completely irrelevant (to current gameplay), lying to customers, then really horrible customer treatment (banning and un-banning players because they became a nuissane rather than breaking rules, giving us silent treatment for weeks), etc.

So yeah, you're right, comparing with Netflix isn't really good. The critisism we have is related to communication, and the lack/shifting of development of the core product. A better comparison would be Star Wars:Galaxies and the NGE-debacle.

Ahh yes... The great unsub sub unsub sub unsub (say when....).

I still laugh at all the "unsubs" who are still bitchin' on the forums.

As Hilmar said, we judge by what people do, not what they say. Now THAT is a righteous CEO comment to make. No BS and straight down the line. Hey, it's Eve. Waddya expect?!

I'll have mine black please.

(Oh and btw. The Netflix CEO would have to been told to apologise by his shareholders. He would not have even been moved by customer complaints as that would have been expected and part of the risk-management strategies.)

It's not the best comparison, but that is an excellent example of good CEO communication. I doubt we'll see something similar from CCP, do we ever hear anything from the CCP CEO directly? And if we get a decent hangar back who cares?

It might have been even more righteous if CCP didn't have such an industry-leading record of saying and not doing themselves.

That phrase will haunt them for the rest of their corporate history.

Not everyone pays with a plex or 1 month at a time.

Also it's obvious there are less people playing, majority of the time numbers are easy 5000 (up to 10K) from usual. (and no it's not because of summer/autumn/winter/spring/holidays/christmas/easter/halloween/4thjuly/bf3 release day)

Most unsubbers just want their game preserved. They have done all they can do by unsubbing, and are making themselves vocal on the forums in the hope CCP might actually listen.

The forum rages were full of out of context quotes and excerpts. Hell the vast majority of people who quit didn't even know that the one document was a guy speaking hypothetically from the issue in the diretion he was told to, or they had that **** in their sig about how the other guy should be president because of quotes taken out of context from a piece where he spoke about both sides of the issue.

Misinformation was rampant, trolls had a field day, and people put spin on everything.

People fell into that state where 'so many people are mad there must be something real...' and joined in without a clue what was going on. There were I-Quit posts from people who'd been playing for years, that said nothing on their own. They only quoted or paraphrased other people quitting over assumption or misinformation they themselves didn't double check. Half the people shooting at the monument didn't know why, they just felt like hanging out.

Hell I shot at the monument and flew around for an hour one night asking people there about it... most of them had no ability to say what had been done wrong, or had basic misconceptions like Aur being unavailable to people who don't pay money.

Even if a few of you have your facts straight or have a real concern, you have to realize in hindsight that the majority of the protests were unfounded hype. Those people could still be playing today and still see no effects of the NeX on their game. There is no comparison from that to Netflix.
