Dominix Tanking issues

Depending on Cap Skills and Implants, using a single faction LAR you can tank around 600dps against the hardest to tank which is Angels. For Guri/Serp/Sansha/Blood a single LAR fit with specific damage hardners can net you a 1k tank.

Setup properly a Sentry Domi can do the 700/700 setup, 700 active DPS and 700 active Tank. This will clear pretty much all L4 missions.

Refine your agro management with the drones and you are golden in a Domi. Still a great boat.

Honestly, I usually run with 200-300dps worth of tank on mine, unless the mission really calls for more. The main strength of the domi is its ability to murder everything before it gets in range.

~800 DPS
730 Tank against Serp and others
Capstable with 2 Guns active

Tanks every Mission if you watch what triggers

I personally fyl around with 500 tank and it's fine.

The important thing is to get at least one tracking mod for you 350s, or they won't hit anything, that moves faster than a BS at 50 km.

And btw.:

Go get a Navy Domi its easier to fit and you can shieldtank it.

Yes and completely gimp your midslot upgrades to drones and cap, especially against Sansha/Bloods. Might work against Guri/Serps/Angels, but you shoot yourself in the foot otherwise. Not to mention horrible Cap management. You commit to being a Rail Boat with a shield Domi, better off with a Mega at that point.

I would fit the specific hardeners but I'm worried about not being cap stable for my repairers.

I was told I needed a big tank, something like 400 dps at least. I couldn't for the life of me get anywhere near there -- just about half that -- with one LAR. So I got another one and the rest of the fit just followed suit. I did have an original domi that rocked the one LAR type of fit, but I was always doing L4's with my buds.

Here's the thing, my real concern behind this post: my buds are both Caldari. Drake or Raven they can solo any mission I've ever heard of on a shield tank. As a Gallente armor rep pilot do I ever have the possibility of standing up to their level of "tankability" / dealing dps? All those rockets, missiles, bombs, etc just seem to out perform any drone or hybrid charge combination that I can put together.

I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, I'm looking for ideas or advice on how to maximize a navy domi. I can tell that having two LAR's are not optimal. What you've all been posting has been helpful, I do appreciate them.

It's not a navy domi, and I haven't actually flown the poor girl in many months (I am much better skilled now). But this fit tanked every level 4 I have run solo. And at the time I was running out of Amarr space (not as optimal for a gallente ship)

Back then I could also not yet use T2 Heavies or Sentries. Setup as below it tanks 491 against serpentis. and is cap stable at 44% with everything going.

This is the exact fit I have been using for over a year, and it is the easiest ship to run missions with you will ever use. It's pretty pricey with the faction omnidirectionals, but now that there are T2 drone modules, that is a no-issue for all but the most dedicated dominix pilot. The major drawbacks of this ship however, are its DPS and difficulty in tanking Angels/Minmatar rats (which is a problem common to many armor tankers)
