sounds like people may be talking of two problems here, 1 is graphics freezing, and 1 is client crashing. Well now i have everything else closed down, including I-tunes, eve runs no problem (so far, as i'll probably jinx myself).

Be sure to tell us how that goes!

well i'm happy with performance now, the only application i have running in the background are

adobe reader,
wine helper,
firefox
and finder,

And i've not had a graphics freeze (which was always my problem) since i last wrote on this page.

Something CCP patched the EvE client with has made it very sensitive to background programs, i used to have all sorts running, i think i can remember most.

MAC microsoft office, all programs.
bit torrent
i-tunes
photo booth
(as well as above)

I think that's it, so something from one of them (i think, as i'm not an expert bug finder or programmer) was causing my problem, could be different programs for different people, i don't know. But as someone quoted above, they found client more stable when they closed down other programs, but not completely stable. Well close down absolutely everything you can, and got a completely stable client.

Hopefully this info may be of use to CCP, in finding out what the cause is, as i have a top spec 27" i-mac which is capable of running many things at once with eve also running. Hope this is a good work around for people, good luck.

Please post here if it works for you, may help CCP do something about it.

Well, so far some days I get excellent performance, maybe 2-3 crashes an hour. Other days I can't even leave the dock.
And I run nothing in the background, so I think it might be something ccp is doing.

2 to 3 an hour is not excellent. I get maybe one a week, and I think that is too much. I wonder if this from the patch notes has anything to do with the issue:

"The clock of clients is now synchronized regularly with the server to reduce problems (like freezes at jumping) caused by unstable client clocks."

Could the Mac client with the Cider wrapper get a messed up clock more easily? Im assuming the client clock is different from the system clock, although Im not quite sure whats going on here.

I'm having the same issue as Swaffer. I've got a top spec 27" imac with plenty of CPU grunt and RAM. I used to have 2 clients running as well as a whole heap of background programs. Now both clients will crash if there are background programs running. The background programs I usually have runnning are;

Office 2011
Vuze
iTunes
Firefox

I hope there is a fix for this as I play a lot in the background while doing other tasks.

Lots of freezing. Lots of crashing. Even had to delete and re-install the game due to the black screen problem listed in another thread. No background programs running.

Huge delay when jumping into another system. Doesn't matter what time, what region, or what local count.
I give up on CCP help. Typical dev response, it must obviously be my internet connection...despite the fact that lots of other users are experiencing the same issues, and no other program or game that I run has these same problems.

I've spent some time looking into this and we've made some progress, we know the code that is causing the issue, but we're not sure how to reproduce it.

So far i've been able to do this by having a lot of players shoot me on sisi for a long period of time. If there are any of you who can give me a clue as to what is most likely to cause this freeze, it would help me a lot.

To the first player to give me reproduction steps that works everytime and doesn't take several hours, I will give you any ship, with any fitting on singularity and all the skill-points to use them.*

This works every time for me....

Have any bit torrent program running in background ( tried Vuze and uTorrent ), or even just run adobe updater and freeze within 3 mins max. *Edit* > usually 30 seconds.

Seems the Mac build , for me. can't handle any program in background that uses web access. Though Mail and Safari don't cause it.

Very rarely, maybe once every 20hrs of game time I'll get a freeze that seems to be window driven, e.g. viewing contracts from item info link with something else open as well, seems to take 3 to 4 windows open to cause it.

Great news. I know you will solve it ... soon :)

I have a feeling that my clients freeze more often when they are running in the background. If running multiple clients is not a problem for your debugging try opening lots of them and one will soon crash.

Interesting... I just got a freeze while getting near an acceleration gate to a mission.

I had just entered the client, checked one or another price in market window and out into the space.

Seconded. Still getting random delays all the time and the worst client performance I've had since starting the game. Lucky to get 10fps at the moment and was doing 60 no problem prior to crucible.

Macbook 13inch, 9400m GT, 2 gigs ram. 10.6.8

Lowest settings possible.

Something has changed but I am not sure if it is an improvement or not. Game still freeze randomly (seems to be graphics only since char will continue to be logged into the game and probably also keeps doing what it did) but some of the freezes now only last 5-10sec. AFAIK that used to not be the case. Now, if these events represent new behavior of the old perpetual freezes it is a slight improvement. But it may also just be a new bug.

I'm afraid this is not new... I remember my client having these freezes and then coming back to life about a month ago already.

Had two freezes today and both yet again resulted in the problem with restarting the client (splash screen and nothing more after that). Both times the client froze when I started to type something into the search field in the market window. Maybe this helps with isolating the problem, although I doubt it...

Both freezes resulted in the problem with the client no longer starting up (nothing comes after the splash screen). I had this after almost all my freezes so far, which could be a result of force quitting the client. But that's the only way for me to get rid of the frozen client.

Anyways, there's a thread which has the solution to that problem (client startup). Seems I can't link it here cause somehow the forum doesn't accept the url, no matter if plain or embedded as a link. Look for the thread titled '~Crucible Crash Fix Thread~' and you'll find it.

I was able to improve the solution of the original poster such that I no longer lose all my preferences, etc. (see that thread for the details). It comes down to two files which somehow get corrupted either during the client freeze or force quitting it then. Deleting them makes the client start again and I now retain all my settings. If it's associated with the freeze rather than force quit, maybe this helps finding the source of the problem...

Four freezes over two clients and about 40minutes of playing. One of the freezes was severe enough that my alt lost connection and logged out from the server. I also had two freezes where the client came back to life after 5 seconds or so. This is ridiculous.
