It just went FTP, I went to try it and it said I already had an account Shocked . I recover it/logi in and said I had last visited 05-15-2009, I don't even remember playing so I suppose it was bad. Does anyone play? Is ir good now?

It's the best MMO out there. In fact It was so good it had to go F2P because the developer didn't know what to do with all the money they were making from the games many subscriber(s).

Seriously, since you already seem to have all you need to play the game, why not just logon and see how you like it.

I tried it out for a day after leaving SWTOR (terrible game.) It seemed good, nice graphics, nice classes and races etc good combat. Space combat seemed nice too, but I quit. Why quit, it is even free to play? Because it has sooo much microtransactions, not just what you see in their store on website but inside game 90% of all clothes for instance and respeccing and changing name of companions and what not, everything costs real money, more than a subscription would have cost. All new cool content also costs money. So I figure if I do enjoy it I would end up spending a **** ton of money for something that should be included in the game or whatever.

League of Legends and other similar games F2p modell is fine by me but STO goes over the top.

So I am not saying it is a bad game or you should not try it, just a warning of what to expect. Everyone I saw in the game or spoke to have spent more than 15 dollars a month in the game.

I plan to give it a go and asked for some thoughts on it.

Got some good answers.

Well, that's the point with MT schemes... you get what you pay and what you didn't pay is crap. I was on the early stages of Battlefield Heroes (when better items were grindable) and just went back some weeks ago and found out that, just to equip one character with better-than-free "forever" weapons, it would cost about 80 $. And then you just would have the same guns as everyone else, you know. Then there was wardrobe and bonus and healing and... hell, FTP are a nifty business scheme to part fools of their money... Blink

(Be noted that I am in favor of vanity MT in EVE... but then you can grind for them and not having a Structure dress is not going to harm your gameplay)

Hey I did list games that are F2P that I don't mind. I do not mind EVE Onlines buying of aura clothes crap at all, does not hurt me one way or the other. Buying PLEX on the other hand I do mind somewhat but also I don't mind it, undecided on that one. STO's shop however I do mind. Wait I changed my mind, EVE is a sub based game, they have no business offering clothes for real money or PLEX for that matter, but then again I don't pay a sub anymore I just mission run for ISK, buy a PLEX on market then inject myself with it. Hmm

Anyway, LoL does it pretty damn well and they are the most succesfull F2P game in the world right? Maybe people should follow their example.

Here's my view on it, I tried it about a week ago.

- account creation looks amateurish
- the first graphics you'll see look like you're player Driller on the Amiga
- the intro music is so loud you can't actually hear the narration
- the game look stupid, feel stupid and just IS stupid

It's a waste of effort, I gave up after 30 minutes. I've played some weird **** in my years but this just feels so mediocre, badly made with zero attention to detail I refuse to even bother with it.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Buddy tried to talk me into it. I downloaded it, got the subscription going, made my character, and crash. Absolutely could not get past the first cut scene. I went through a huge list of changes that I was receiving from the forums and nothing worked to fix it. So I cancelled my sub and removed the game.

And that is how I played STO.

Yeah, I play STO, except it's called Starfleet Command and it isn't dumbed down to satisfy the need for mindless MMO-style grinding.

I played STO in beta and finished it in less than 2 weeks without even trying. Then finished again a week after that.

Picked it up again the other week because its free to see how much more they added in 2 years. I finished it within a weekStraight

Its not an MMO but its free so why not give it a go.
