ive got 500 mil to spend including fit

i thought i will be fine doing l4s in drake since ive seen so many videos on youtube with it but ppl say it will actually take longer than flying a BS

so my question is whats the best caldari ship for l4s ? is it raven, tengu or what ? im skilling toward missiles and want to keep it that way, drake seemed a perfect ship.

raven has got weird setup. 8 high slots but only 6 launcher hardpoints and 4 turret. so using 6 launchers and 2 turrets seems weird. navy issue looks better cuz it has got 7 launcher hardpoints but it costs 350 mil and i dno if i will afford to fit it then.

halp lol.

nevermind the tengu, it takes too long to learn it.

Well here's the problem for you...

You're kinda screwed both ways.

Stay in the drake and you'll have just sub par DPS.

Move to a raven and you can get greater raw DPS but it'll be less effective.

This is cause of missile explosion velocity and explosion radius. The explosion velocity means that the faster they are going the less damage you do. The explosion radius means the smaller they are the less damage you do.

Both of these stats are much less effective for battleship sized missiles meaning that you won't be able to hit anything smaller than a battleship for decent damage.

Your best bet is honestly the tengu as it can put out more DPS then a drake but still us smaller missiles. In the meantime though CNR could do you well.

As a Tengu and CNR pilot, let me just point out that a properly fitted CNR can pump out far more effective DPS than the Tengu can. The CNR is capable of blowing up everything but the elite "Angel Spy" frigates in Worlds Collide (but then you just carry a webifier drone, problem solved), and most of the HP in level 4 mission is in battleships. The CNR is much better at exploding battleship sized targets than the Tengu is. In fact, the CNR is better at blowing up battlecruisers and elite cruisers too!

Just make sure you fit your CNR properly. Rigor catalysts to ensure you do lots of damage against smaller targets. Target painter to make sure you do lots of damage against smaller targets. Then pack your cargo hold full with CN and Fury missiles and do boatloads of damage against everything.

The only downside of the Raven/CNR is mobility. Use the Tengu for "The Score" due to the 50km between gates, or go grab a coffee while flying to the next gate :)

Don't pilot what you can't afford to lose and replace.

So 500m / 2 = 250m.

That's a Raven. You don't want to do level 4 missions in a Drake. Tengu cost 427m to build at the moment, and a lot more than that to buy and fit.

Buy a Cap Booster 800 BPO, they are cheap. Train Industry 1. Build you own cap charges from reprocessed mission junk. It is easier to build them where you need them than to haul them around. You can quickly build a lot of them.

I carry 15 cap 800 charges (3 reloads) plus 5 in the module. This lasts me about 4-7 missions depending on the missions. The rest of the cargo I fill with cruise missiles. I run out of missiles or change missile damage types more often than I need more cap charges.

I like to take advantage of the long range of cruise missiles. I warp into a site and immediately head away from everything while dragging the initial aggro group with me. Killing webbers is a priority. I then orbit at 105 km from everything, which is more than enough to be out of NPC battleship range. Only Angels will keep up with me (movement reduces incoming damage), but otherwise I can turn-off my hardeners (keep afterburner running) as there is no incoming damage at that range. The only time I need my shield booster is on warp-in for the initial group. If there is a gate, I plan it so I arrive at the gate just as the last NPC is destroyed, otherwise I'll just orbit the warp-in beacon or a structure.

When you upgrade to a Raven Navy Issue, you can fit it the same, but with an extra launcher and T2 rigs. I upgraded to Caldari Navy (CN) launchers rather than training for T2 cruise launchers. I also upgraded to CN BCS and hardeners. Note that Caldari Navy = Dread Guristas, so look for both on contracts and buy the cheapest, but don't mix launchers as you can't group them.

Tengu > Raven > Drake

Judging by the upper end standard anomalies in 0.0 a Tengu is what you are looking for. However, the ISK you have barely covers a lowend Tengu fit, so go for one the better Ravens up there ^^
So my plan would be get a Raven for now and train for a Tengu - you're almost there.

I disagree on the Tengu, people like it because it's bling and funky while allowing for easy missioning (also people say it's good because... people say it's good, meme ahoy). The problem is that it only really works in a Kinetic environment. Would you do a Sansha mission your dps will be mediocre and your tank will be suffering.

A raven (and it's faction counterpart) do not have this issue, they don't have a specific damage type bonus and do well with each and their tank being less based around base resists works out better. Also having more cap means less chance of being neuted by bloodraiders. And for the explosion radius/velocity comment, while true in base form if you fit Rigors to a raven/CNR that issue is completely gone and you'll apply lots of dps just fine.

Imo, the CNR is far more versatile than the Tengu and does lots and lots of dps. Only downside is that it moves slower making it more boring, but then all PVE is boring. Bonus is that it's much easier to get into a Raven/CNR than it is to get into a Tengu.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Now I am curious. Why would a Tengu suck in a Sansha environment.
The main benefit of the Tengu is speed and dps. Anchor on a BS orbit it at 15, turn on your afterburner and resists and ... win.
I've done lots of solo Havens and Hubs with minimal/if any damage taken, because the rats fail to hit. As long as you kill anything webby you're fine.

Webbed Tengu = dead Tengu, do let it happen.

It applies more versatile damage, that's it though. It is not hard to get into a tengu either, so i'm not sure where you got that. Cruiser V is the only hurdle to jump and that's infinitely more useful than caldari bs.

I really lol'd at the everyone flies tengus because everyone flies tengus. That was pretty good m8. I better get the maller fad going, since we know good ships are dictated entirely by popularity and not their stats.

Tengu's have a damage bonus tied to Kinetic damage, Sansha have decent Kinetic resists compared to EM/Thermal. If you switch to EM missles you lose a considerable amount of DPS based on the Tengu's bonus. The Raven hulls have an ROF bonus instead of a +damage bonus. They do equal damage with all missle types.

The trade off, Tengu's can tank the EM/Thermal damage better due to their speed and sig radius. Always kill smallest to largetst with Tengus. The Ravens get hit so you want to kill biggest to smallest. A proper T2 CNR/Raven Cruise fit can obliterate Sansha BS's very quickly at range using EM missles.

When it comes to firing at frigs and cruisers, even off resist ones like Sansha makes little difference to a Tengu, but the elite cruisers and high value Battleships will take much longer to kill in a Tengu.

The Drake's damage is similar to the Tengu in that it is tied to specific Kinetic DPS. A Drake is fine for L4 Guri/Serp missions, but they take longer.

Buffered Maller Bait Ship FTW!! 100k EHP, DPS of a wet noodle, slower than watching a rock melt!
