Comcast Vancouver. Same. As if their service wasn't bad enough with caps.

Well I mean.. with all the competition that they have for our business, you think they'd offer a better service.

Oh wait.. they literally have 0 competition for our business.

I think Comcast's problem, at least in my area, is that they oversell. They have too many people running off of one hub and it starts degrading service. I know we lost our TV, Internet and Phone for 3-4 days before they finally fixed it once.

FYI - Looks like the problems may be closer to CCP than your end on comcast.

The good traceroute passes through Global Crossing (208.178.58.85, 204.245.39.42) and then to CCP.

The bad one passes through Abovenet, gets all the way to the UK and then dies. I noticed problems with Abovenet when my connections where going bad around Christmas. I had a few disconnects and crashes lately, but I haven't bothered to investigate, probably the same thing.

CCP may want to adjust some of its routing policies to avoid Abovenet if they keep being a problem, or reprovision things.

It could be Comcast's fault still I suppose, if they are pushing traffic to Abovenet for traffic management. But as I am not on Comcast that wouldn't reflect my issues; its just transatlantic connections, interfacing in the UK.

It's not CCP. It's Comcast and our ISPs. I ran a traceroute while we had a connection:

As you can see, the internet requests just kind of die off somewhere over there. Some node on the internet is thrashing back and forth between life/death and it's killing us off.

Quick follow up:

Abovenet is not always bad:

It looks like to me Abovenet is having occasional issues. Probably shifting traffic around when they get congested. (Network Engineering is one of the things I do IRL.)

(Note: You probably want to sanitize the first couple of hops when you post traceroutes, I could probably find your neighborhood or at least your city from those. Just being sufficiently paranoid.)
