Sons and Daughters of Matar, Allies and Friends of Freedom.

A day approaches which reaches into the very soul of Minmatar.

On that day five years ago, we saw the death of a truly great man, at the hands of one he called brother. A hero to the people and scourge to those who would enslave them.

Where others had feared to step, he led. He cast aside the fear that held the Republic back and did what he must. In doing so he changed history.

He was Defiant.

Seeking out the The Ushra’Khan and like-minded pilots, together they disrupted Imperial control of the Bleak Lands, culminating in the destruction of an Imperial Battle Station, laying the foundation for what was to follow.

The Elders returned, the Starkmanir were brought home, and the men and women he led defied CONCORD and invaded the heart of the Empire itself in the liberation of millions of the Minmatar people.

He was Karishal Muritor.

Five years has passed, and so we ask of the Sanmatar Maleatu Shakor, is it not time the hero was welcomed home?

Forgive me, but I'm a little confused about this. The way you're wording the question it almost sounds as if the man is still alive, when by your own words, and the information you provide, he's dead, so I hope you see why I'm slightly confused. Are you seeking some sort of symbolic gesture from the Sanmatar and the rest of the Republic government? Some sort of official recognition of a man who defied that same government? That seems like a long shot, at best, and I'm not sure it would make any sort of noticeable difference in the end. No doubt he's already respected and revered as a hero in some places in the Republic.

Regardless, and I realize you didn't exactly ask for opinions but this is the IGS after all, but I'm not sure how I personally feel about this. Obviously I doubt he actually cares about the recognition, given his current state. However I am a bit conflicted about the notion of honoring him. On the one hand was a violent extremist, in the Republic's own eyes apparently, and no doubt he is at least partly responsible for numerous deaths. On the other hand he also no doubt freed many people who in a way owe their lives today to him, and further he died in the pursuit of his cause, which regardless of how you feel about the cause itself is something deserving of some respect.

Muritor was a war-monger and a terrorist who deserves to burn in hell for all eternity.

I could say the same about a large proportion of the Emperors/Empresses.

Since that day U'K have been entrusted with this hero's body. Indeed one of our former stations was named in his honor and became a place of pilgramage for many. Given the changing tide of history since then we believe it a fitting time to seek his return.

Of course for many he lives on. In the battles fought every day.

Perhaps his spirit still roams the Bleak Lands.

Considering the state the so called "republic" has been in for the last years I'm sure this cretins remains are spinning fast enough in it's grave to power a spacestation.

Why anyone would call an open dictatorship with some tribal flavour freedom is beyond me.

The admiral defied Midular's government, something I believe Shakor appreciated. I hope Shakor agrees it is finally time to respect the fallen hero's last wishes.

The Republic has undergone some dramatic political change since Muritor's death. He was declared an outlaw and assassinated under the orders of former-Prime Minister Midular in attempt to appease Amarr. His body was recovered by Ushra'Khan pilots and has remained under our care since. As a political fugitive he could not be returned home to be properly honoured.

Following Muritor's death, the Defiants departed to the Great Wildlands and disappeared from public sight for a time. They later returned flying as a part of the Elder's task force which rescued the rediscovered Starkmanir tribe. As did now Sanmatar Shakor.

Five years on we believe that the time has now come for Muritor's remains to be returned home and laid to rest in a manner that befits his contribution to the cause of Matari freedom, not as afugitive, but as the warrior he was. This was a man who gave all that he had for his beliefs, and that sacrifice deserves recognition.

I exercise my freedom everyday to destroy Amarrian incursions into our space.

Karishals example of resistance and defiance to the slaver scum rather than the Republics appeasement policy lives on in the many thousands of pilots who fight in the Faction War.

Sadly the Republic will never bring him home at risk of provoking a Amarrian attack, But we will continue to fight in his name.

They'll happily lay waste to Amarrian planets without regard for the consequences, but they don't want Muritor's body back because the Empire might not approve?

Hardly likely now is it?

What's more likely is that they don't want him back because he's outlived his usefulness.

I believe that in the early days of the Sanmatar's premiership things were quite hectic and that the issue may have been seen as inflammatory between the tribes. Midular might have been running low on supporters when the Elders returned, but there was doubtless some who believed that overt action against Amarr was foolhardy. That was a long time ago now though, so I think that the matter has simply been overlooked since.
