So yes... I got a e-mail, text message, and phone call all simultaneously today, as I tried to buy a year-long subscription to EVE.

The Text Reads:
SUSPICIOUS TRANSACTION ACTIVITY, "EVE ONLINE " HALTED FOR #INTEGRITY1. CONTACT FOLLOWING.

After verifying half a dozen of tidbits of information with my bank, they determined that I am actually me, but they warned me that :

"Europe is a dangerous place for credit card users".

Certainly you EU folks have heard of credit cards?

Anyway, just wanted to tell ya, my personal, if alarming experience with trying to pay for EVE on a card.

EDIT: Just went through! yay!

Not sure about other countries laws but CC companies are liable for fraudulent activity where I am from - not the cardholder.

I've had a CC company contact me once over a large CC transaction to confirm I actually wanted it and I see this as a good way to keep "suspicious activity" off your card. It's in the banks best interests to do so.

Now if only mobile phone (cell) companies did the same when your bill goes more than double the norm. Oh wait. YOU are liable for that one 'ey? Figures.

Nullsec democracy is an oxymoron. Bloc voting for alliance candidates is Democracy for Morons 101. Let them perish in their self-interest.

Bring back Eve. OUR Eve.

Same. You'd think a company I've been giving money to regularly for years now would be on some kind of white list.

But no. Every single time I use my card I get an automated phone call almost instantly to confirm it. Plus a $1.00 overseas charge. It's quite annoying actually.

Weird, I've never had a fraud alert with an overseas business. However I've had ~5 the last year dealing with companies in my own state. Perhaps I need to change banks lol. Because the other way makes way more sense.

The name EVE Online probably gets flagged as a possible p0rn or escort business ... thus CC companies calling to verify/approve the transaction.

EU has crazy levels of identity theft. At least when compared to the US.

If you are American and with an American bank I am going to fall off my chair laughing.

That said, a common tactic of MMORPG companies especially ones that are doomed to failure is to keep charging you even after you've cancelled in the hopes you won't notice, maybe this set off some flags and now all MMORPG companies look suspicious.

Since they have facilities in US, I'm surprised CCP doesn't just route US transactions to a point in the US. I'd think it would be more cost efficient and save anguish for all the parents going WTF?? when trying to sign up their kid to play.

I have no such issue when making transactions anywhere in the world. My bank has me down as someone with strange tastes.

The only thing rarer is a post by Poetic Stanziel not advertising the blog followed by no posts calling attention to the fact that the Blog was not linked.

I think I have only seen that particular situation once but I may have been Hallucinating.

It might not be EVE Online they consider fraudulent but think the Card may have been stolen.

To be fair, the charges on CC are criminal so its no wonder it gets flagged all the time.

My bank was suspicious the first time, but given my previous history (subscriptions to other games) they let it go through while they asked me if it was a'ight. When I confirmed, they added it to the whitelist and its been KNP ever since.
