Probing

I was probing for ships to ninja loot in the hopes of getting a fight with one of them. I have a very specific ship that I'm looking for and it's kinda driving me nuts, all the probing and then stuff disappears when it's not the correct ship class, etc.

I can think of getting the ID of someone who undocks in a tasty ship, or maybe upgrading all my equipment (implants etc) which would take a lot of training time. Also, I'm sure as I get better at pvp the number of potential targets will increase as I become more flexible.

Any other options?

Filter types are worthless and just confuse the process, turn them off.

Key advice is to give up chasing carebears and try a real challenge! You know you can do it c:

I'm sure there are guides or something out there about speed probing, but I will share the contents of my vacuous head with you anyway.

1) Use d-scan to get direction and approximate distance first.
2) Use an alt in a bonused probing ship w/ Sisters launcher and probes. If you plan to do a lot of probing (especially if your goal is profit), it's totally worth the cost.
3) USE AN ALT TO PROBE FOR YOU .This will also let you drop probes off scan from your target, arrange them, then drop them on top of your target for a 1-scan.
5) Use your alt to fleet warp your main then stop your alt's ship before it hits warp.

I'm awful at probing and these are the basic tips I would give to anyone and the things I find useful when I'm not being my normal lazy self. Also, try to stick to scanning larger stuff at first until you have better skills.

Confirming you care so little you can't help commenting all the time. Also suggesting someone ups their game is indeed white kniting bears. Confirming butthurt alt posters are worthless scrubs.

A while ago I spent about a week chasing missioners around like this. Bottom line is the time required does not justify the effort. I too was looking for specific ships, namely Amarr. I had a friend help out and we sat outside a busy mission station and passive scanned them as they came out. We also grabbed their sig ID so they would be easy to isolate once they warped to their mission space. I kept a running log of IDs along with notes on player age and corp history, looking for nice combinations of shiny ships and noobish pilots. After scanning down well over 100 ships I got only two to attack my helpless-looking ninja dessy. After warping back in with a kill ship, one was over 50km away from where I landed and got away. The other actually died as planned. So for all that effort, we netted one single Amarr BS. *sigh*

The problem is (I believe) that when you loot from them and turn red on their overview, most bears have no idea wtf just happened and run away because of the scary red in their overview. 8 out of 10 times, I'd loot and they'd warp, then dock up .. sometimes for well over the 15 minute timer. 1 out of 10 they'd ignore me. Occasionally they'd lock me, blow up wrecks, or bring in a Noctis to vacuum. Having one actually open fire was an anomaly.

Spank is right. ISK and/or adrenaline is better sought elsewhere unfortunately. Or join SN so you can process the bulk as a large team, sweeping through entire systems in minutes.

Easiest way to get a ship ID of a specific target, is have your probes set up around the station your target ships docks at. When he undocks do a quick probe and then just ignore all other results, once you find out what his ship ID is.

How long is a ship id useful for?

What happens if they leave system, etc.

Anywhere I could read up on this stuff?

Thank you very much for your report PB (lol awesome name).
