I want to try out this Planetary Interaction thing and just want to know if it is profitable in highsec? With the increased tax, which would be best? gathering P1 stuffs? or buy those and produce P2/P3 stuffs?

Please give me a bit of advise. I just dont want to blindly set up PI in highsec only to realize that i cant make profit....my cash is somewhat limited Big smile

Why not set up in a quiet low sec system? If you take the appropriate precautions it's fairly safe.

as a general rule, you never just harvest P1 stuff. You harvest P1 and manufacture it into P2 on-planet; Straight P1s are huge from a cargo point of view and it's incredibly inefficient to haul them most of the time.

The tax affected everyone equally, except for those with player owned customs offices (which only exist in lowsec/nullsec, cost 80 mil, and can be taken down). They aren't all that common, so market prices, to my knowledge, aren't determined by them.

Harvesting P1, converting to P2 and selling is just straight profit. Producing P3/P4 is risky, you need to do your homework but has the potential to make much more.

P0 - raw materials: bacteria, noble gas, aqueous liquid.
P1 - water, oxygen, etc
P2 - coolant, enriched uranium, etc.
P3 - Robotics

Normally, you'd want to go from P0 to P2.
Going to P3 on a single planet isn't easy.

However, I believe the numbers actually work out better importing P1s, and going to P3s, than starting with P2s. At least with Robotics.

I know Scrapyard Bob's put together a fair few posts on the math.

Woo! CSM XI!

No, it's not, especially considering now that COs can be player owned a lot of low sec places have corps who frown upon killing the CO customers.

Check the COs and who from that corp you can talk to about how they handle such a thing...start one crappy planet to see how honest they are....profit???
