auxiliary carrier

We have regular carriers and Super carriers, so what about the other way, axillary carriers. Lot's of players I play with (including some who do little to none PvP but do PvE, such as myself) talk about wanting a carrier but it takes quite a while to get. This is understandable of course as fitted right, it can be a formidable ship.

I would use it as support for players who hunt the rats in null sec and very small fleet ops.

I think a auxiliary carrier could be a great addition to EvE. Have it hold around a 1/4 of a regular carrier or so and reduce all the other specs by around that much. It won't be a huge threat but can cause some damage with its fighters. Take away a few of each high, medium and low slots of course as well.

That way players who like to play a supporting role can do so in a different way. This could be great for small corp for both PvP and PvE.

Thanks for your consideration.

Soo you mean Dominix? But really we dont need any more caps, super caps, uber super mega caps or as you propose little under caps. Even really small PVP corp can easily afford carrier. Have you checked market recently? They cost less than machariel or nightmare. And they dont take that long to train compared to T2 gunned BS like Marrauders (yes they suck right now).

CCP really please dont use Upgraded, Limited, Experimental and Prototype in item names. It sounds like the item is actually worse than basic meta 1 item. Use Calibrated, Enhanced, Optimized and Upgraded. Its really easy to understand that the item is better than meta 1 and its also in alphabetic order.

I thought carriers were essentially an auxiliary role anyway, hence the bonuses to rep.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Dominix cannot use fighters.

You mean like escort carriers ?

Smaller, faster and can use gates but less capable (ie. no triage and less local and remote repps). Kinda like the concept actually, good for small, mobile gangs, but will die in a fire when used in blob-warfare (where real carriers and capitals are liable to be used).

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Sometimes when I post, I look at my sig and wish that I'd follow my own god damned advice.

That's exactly what I mean.

Not everyone can just shell out 800+ mill for a ship there not even sure they will like. So think of it as the above as well as a starter type for carrier ships. Otherwise if someone gets a regular carrier doesn't care for it, tries it in PvP and loses it, they just get pissed. An auxiliary can help with that part as well.

And part that is pointed out in that linked wiki says: "While they were slower, less armed and armored, and carried fewer planes, they were less expensive and could be built in less time. This was their principal advantage, as escort carriers could be completed in greater numbers as a stop-gap when fleet carriers were scarce."

And of course with EvE being a game, it could be appropriately made so that players couldn't simply get a ton of escort carriers rather than less, but more powerful regular or super carriers.

In the recent CSM notes, CCP stated that they wished to put in more capital ships (not super-capital mind you) to round out the high end ships some more. So I think it's likely we might see an escort carrier class, or an assault carrier or combination thereof. Smile

"Wow, that internet argument completely changed my fundamental belief system," said no one, ever.

I hope so. And being the way is been discussed so far, I wonder if an escort carrier would really be considered capital or not. I would imagine if these were implemented, it would take several of them to try and kill an regular carrier.

and my hope is just that. No more super ships, but rather the other way. auxiliary style ships. Blink
