Fiction Friday is a new regular feature of the EVE Online community team. Every two weeks we will select an article from EVElopedia Fiction Portal and talk about the New Eden lore and how it applies to the game. Of course, everyone is welcome to share their own knowledge on the subject as well!

Sansha’s Nation

Sansha's Nation is one of the most powerful and enigmatic organizations of New Eden. It was founded over a hundred years ago by Sansha Kuvakei, who wished to create a utopian society based around the exploitation of brainwashed slave labor and a small, cybernetically enhanced elite. Nation, as it is called by its citizens, was destroyed by a CONCORD-led coalition of the empires in YC 37, leaving only remnants behind. However, the survivors managed to band together and reemerged in YC105, gradually restoring its power and growing until launching a series of invasions into empire space in YC112.

The Nation manifests itself in EVE Online in many ways, the most notable of which is, of course, the incursions mechanic. Added early last year, this is a series of automated events in which the Nation invades space in an attempt to conquer it for themselves. Capsuleers must fight off the Sansha NPC ships in order to return the contested space back into an area which can more safely occupied.

Sansha’s Nation is also one of the five main “pirate” factions in EVE Online, and as such, its characters play the role of antagonists in a variety of missions and Epic Arcs.
