Missile Skills - Defender, FOF, Rockets?

I'm trying to balance out my missile skills and I've always just assumed I don't need to train these three (all at level 1 atm). Any reason I should? And by reason, I mean for pretty general everyday PVP use. Do people train these for any general reason or are they ignored/used in specialized setups?

Defender and FOF are ****.
Train rockets, its only 4 days.

Defender are usesless. I never trained it.

FoF is worth training to at least 4 in my opinion, if you use them, but it isn't a high priority. I'd train other stuff first.

Rockets used to be broken, but they were fixed about a year ago. They are now good when you are in a frigate and hunting other frigates: Kestrel. Crow. Rifter. Hookbill. The Hawk is underwhelming now but maybe it will be good with rockets when Assault Frigates are fixed.

F.O.F.s can be situationally useful if you remember to put them in your cargo hold and get target jammed or sensor damped a lot. Personally, I haven't used them in years. So you can get along without them.

Defenders are useless and have been since day 1. I have no expectation they will become useful any time soon.

I enjoy all those skills.

Defenders are great for all 3 gurista ships. The worm most of all. on the pvp side of things.

Defenders can also be used on RS fits to clear bonus rooms solo. Drones do the dps and defenders reduce incomming dps.

Rocket launchers are the best at using defender missles.


F.O.F's are great when being jammed both in pvp and pve. Yes they work in L4's too.


I suggest you train them all to 3 as it takes no time. Higher if you go with gurista ships.


Of the 3 skills I found that I use defenders the most so pay no attention to the post above about them being useless. Gurrista ships are the least used ship in the game due to needing the most sp to max.


On a bonus if you are in a mission that jams and you don't want to use f.o.f.'s as you don't want another wave you can again go to defenders and reduce dmg while your drones get things back under control.\

Defenders can also be used when working as a anchor for incursions. As the npc's in them only shoot lasers and missles.

Basicly rattlesnake should always carry defenders and if using cruise lauchers keep some f.o.f.'s near by too.

I have actually used FOF missiles a lot. If you mhave FOF missiles in your hold you can reload to them if you get jammed. it takes less time to reload to FOF missiles than 1 jamming cycle, and if you got jammed once you will most likely get jammed repeatedly. FOF missiles do not require a target lock they just keep firing and go after the closest enemy. Very inefficient but much better than doing no DPS at all while you are jammed. Often the ships jamming you are among the closest. when I get jammed I either try to warp out or hit approach on the ship jamming me and start firing FOFs until the jamming stops or they are dead.

I got caught in a gate camp once that was relying on jamming as part of their defense. they had me tackled I could not get away but firing FOF missiles I was able to kill 3 of them before they broke my tank. They still got me but without the FOF missiles I would not have touched them.

Rockets and FoF have some uses - depending on what you fly and how ofc. Well ok FoF is more of a PvE weapon system than PvP in my opinion.

FoF works ok in some guristas anoms where there is not a lot of structures around. When I was living in vale of silent I had to switch into using FoF in anoms after the spring patch messed a bit up and made guristas NPC's permajam you.

Downside of FoF is that they are utterly stupid and have lower damage than the standard missiles for that particular launcher type. However, they are not utterly bad as they gain bonuses for both the regular missile skill (for example, heavy missiles) and from the FoF missile skill. Even with both at 5 they end up lower damage than the original thing.

Have they implemented T2 FoF missiles already ? Have not looked at them for a while as I no longer live in guristas space.
