How to use the Scanner thing

Yeah uhh you just like uhh, well you gotta err, like, point yer space boat at the direction of the thing you wanna scan, then you just click on the scan button and it scans the thing you wanted to be scanned so you can see what's over there but if you don't set it on a wide enough scan range you might not pick up a scan properly oh and it has to be pointed directly at the thing you wanna scan or it won't work you know, I mean there's totally no way this could be made easier or anything like that I feel this is a top notch way to scan celestial objects you just point yer boat at it and scan it's not difficult to do with massive man hands nor is it time consuming bothersome or just plain stupid, nope it's fine.

Yeah scanning sucks imo.

Pro tip: You don't need to point your boat at anything, scanning works from your camera angle.

Scanning is fine, you suck imo

A 2003 player friend of mine figured this out just a short while ago. I was laughing for the next few hours.

Hit F11, look at the triangular angle highlighted. That will give you point of reference.

Now please go back to sleep so the grownups can play.

This is for rookies, good scanners just do it based on camera angle.

I cant function without fullstops and correct grammar because when i read sentences without any punctuation it gets really confusing and then I forget what I was reading in the first place then it just seems like a weird little ramble like you're out of breath but it's still OK because the point you were making kinda makes sense because scanning does suck so maybe something should be changed in the future to make it a little bit user friendly so I thought maybe making scanner settings seperate to overview settings would simplify things a lot and maybe give more of a visual indication other than the map of what you're looking at would also help.

Am I right?

just wait til you try to figure out how probes work and you buy the wrong kind of probe because you cant be bothered to read the descriptions and help windows before clicking ok and then you launch the probes but you dont know how to use the scanner window or the solar system map and when you finally find out about those features you just randomly shift probes around rather than using some sort of easily repeated pattern because you just cant be bothered to apply any sort of thought to the best way to do something and instead just do things all haphazardly and get confused when they arent stupidly easy

thats going to be a great thread when you post about it

Dorian, I think you have a great career ahead of you as a moon surveyor! You got it down pat, point and shoot.

Yeah but my camera is angled toward my boat, derp Big smile

My mistake. You don't have to angle the boat, just the camera, but because the camera is angled at the boat automatically all the time I accidentally said the wrong thing. My bad guys!

No I just hate the scanning malarkey

Like, why do I have to point at it to scan something? Can't I just right click > scan or something simple like that? I'm not a video game developer, but come on... throw me a freakin' bone here. You guys can come up with something better than the current mechanic.

Sometimes, when I have been drinking, or even when I am sober some times, it's difficult to get a 5 or 15 range scan on an object because the combination of clumsy hands + mouse + stupid game makes angling toward the scanning objective a ridiculous chore.

Minute in the grand scheme of things? Yes.

An annoying pain in the ass that is present every single day in my Eve career? Yes.

lol ^ This.

Reading that CCP blog about shift-click overheating, which mentioned an 'alternative to using the world's smallest button' I thought "What does overheating have to do with trying to get a 15-degree scan?". The slider is awful... and when you're drunk it's damn near impossible.
