CCP Alice (& the gang) I have a useful proposal for the site for consideration.
In addition to( or instead of) building shinies for the marketing department, it may pay off better in the long run to build and implement a comprehensive and easy to use(i.e. idiot proof) way of submitting detailed bug reports via the users' web portal. I noticed the built in bug report feature after only 4 years of bug free game play and was somewhat put off by the 'clunkiness' of it.

1) Add Drag-n-drop functionality for things like screenshots, crash-dump files, and dxdiag reports etc.

2) Create a 'User-Defined' Category because your current selection is quite limited(although this may create a whole new set of issues with how users actually define the problem).

3)' Help the Users Help You' by creating some idiot proof Help Files and attach them via Tooltips at each Step of the Reporting process(if you went with a step-wise process).

I realize that many of these issues are extremely specific to the user ,but many are not, so having a better way of allowing your users to help you ,will allow you to better prioritize your workflow, create extremely detailed reports for the bug-hunting team(allowing them to do their job more efficiently) and create a better game for all of us.

In addition, I have worked in the software development field for over 15 years now, so I understand many frustrations you may have with your own internal processes, but I think that many of your colleagues in IT , who play the game, not only view EveOnline as a great game, but as a keystone technological achievement to be admired. Keep up the great work!Big smile

Want to know what would be great, and really useful? A common login across all websites. I am tired of logging into the forums just to have to re-log into secure.eveonline.com or some other part of the site that requires me to log on. As a web developer myself I find it absolutely MIND BOGGLING that EVEs websites are so segregated like that.

We hear you and are working towards this :)

What would be even better is for CCP to acknowledge that a large portion of their member base have multiple accounts.

- Group all accounts to one login
- Login once on website and choose character to use (as suggested above)
- Login once on eve launcher, then select a character and launch a client with that character ... select another character and launch another client etc (launcher remains open)

While I generally like the idea of making things easier on people who have multiple accounts, I'd prefer to see that sort of thing manifest itself more in terms of being able to tie multiple "game" accounts into one "CCP" account so you can have them all centralized in the account portal, all work off the same billing info (rather than a copy of the billing info for each acount), all require common credentials when logging into the game... that sort of thing. Actually merging the accounts themselves to me gets tricky and opens up a big can of bookkeeping worms (especially with the way training works on a per-account basis). Nothing insurmountable, but also nothing that really *needs* changing. Really the main thing that *needs* changing is the ability to switch between characters on an account without having to completely re-start the client. For web-stuff yeah, use the common profile and let people switch to any character on any of their accounts, but in-game a lot of things would likely need a good long look before essentially moving from "you have 2 accounts" to "you have 6 character slots and can train 2 at a time." Possibly useful, *completely* different discussion though.

I'd also caution against persistant launchers, unless they're *entirely* optional. This, even more than the nanny/spyware aspect, is my biggest disagreement with how BF3 is handled- why do I have to burn system resources keeping *2* applications running in addition to the actual game? And don't get me started on their apparent reliance on a browser plugin...

The SiSi "launcher" is one thing, and a "multi-launch" utility for people with tons of accounts is another, but please don't anyone start thinking about an always-on launcher required for everyone that sits in the background "just in case" offering what *should* be 0 value to people who have already finished launching all their characters.

Kinda OT, sorry, but a lot of those sorts of things do seem to start out with a desire to integrate games with web portals and a lot of the features they can bring *are* nice, but IMO best done in a much less restrictive and much more lightweight fashion.

Great stuff!
Players that just came in, wanna try out a new style of gameplay or new sign-ups, definitely will work better with a playstyle guide.
Should be a guide to playstyles, not definite classes/jobs. The freedom of choice is one main factor for all loyalist players!
And the freedom of playstyle should be better marketed, with one competition coming up trying to boost their claims on 'free from jobs' gameplay. EVE must stake claim on the working formula!

Also, please create a "like" feature for articles such as dev blog postings. Not only will it help me personally safe some time when telling you that I like these ideas but also will it give you instant community feedback showing you how your ideas are percieved by the eve community.

For that you'd want both (maybe 3 buttons) a Like, a Dislike, and maybe a Partial

At the same time the new website will be revealed, the resources and information which players have sought on the EVE Online site, will be made available on a new community website which should prove to be quite an improvement in terms of browsing and locating what you need.
Huh? EVEGate? Something else beyond both EVEGate and the new public-facing site?

The website your making is NICE to have. Web based skill trainer is NEED to have.

I watched the ccp video on youtube, the 3d ship modelling looked great. Can't wait to try it out.

Hopefully my friends will get interested when they get to see the new website and finally join me.

But I like the current website :(

But seriously good luck, hopefully it will add features without taking things away or making them overly complicated and confusing. Current group and submenus are cool.

To: CCP Alice and EVE Mgt in general
From: One of your many shareholders (subscriber)
Subj: EVE Info Portal dev blog - stylistic approach

Thank you for issuing this very clear, transparent and businesslike blog. This is an evolutionary step forward in how CCP interacts with customers. It coincides well with your transitional efforts for the game, brand and market approach as a whole.

I feel more like a shareholder reading a quarterly (in this case weekly) report of the on going corporate activity. I LOVE IT!!!

Is it spun? Sure. Is it carefully phrased? Of course! Does it seem to really represent how you are going about the business of building and changing and improving this kick ass internet space empire game? Yes. Yes it does.

Thank you,

Very Respectfully,
