The Crime and it's Just Punishment

Recently the Dutch Supreme Court ruled that taking digital items from someone in a "game" is a crime and recompense is required. If you read the ruling this means if you take 1's and 0's either by real life force or by exploits in game you will be punished in real life and not protected by the game developers/owners.

The Crime:
Using in game exploits to take from other players.

The Punishment:
A law suit forcing ccp to force said exploiters to return said 1's and 0's and/or real life punishment to be determined by the courts.

The Target:
-a- alliance has consistently used exploits in game to take 0.0 space illegally beginning in the initial days of 0.0 sov. (This could be applied to other alliances such as goons, bob, etc.)

Definition of Exploits:
A game mechanic currently or later determined to be unintended.

The law suit will force ccp to remove -a- from 0.0 and remove all sov currently held by this alliance.

Is this a slippery slope? Too bad..ccp should have reset things affected by exploits and you should have thought of that when you started cheating...

CCP owns all the 1's and 0's in game, you're just borrowing them while you play in the sandbox.

This. The case I thought was primarily about real-life incidents that led to the so called 'crime'. Anyways I might be wrong but there is no way people are going to stop scamming in Eve. The things that make the biggest headlines in here are the scams. And I'm sure CCP have got it covered. Hell,if there didn't why would a there be a C&P sub-forum?

So make a petition about it every time they use an exploit. be sure to provide details so CCP can verify it.

Agreed. However, the Dutch Court ruled that your time and energy invested belongs to you and the game owners/developers are responsible for protecting your investment if you are paying for the time to play the game. Game owners/developers are also responsible for replacing said 1's and 0's you spent the time and energy obtaining if they are taken from you illegally, ie. exploits.

Thank you for your support.

ccp has said that scamming is an "as intended" game mechanic, meaning allowable. Exploits are game mechanics currently or later determined to be unintended, meaning illegal for game use (proven by the small number of bans for certain exploits).

The case involved real life threats used to steal an in game item to the point of forcing a player at knife point to drop the item in game. It is not the same as falling for a contract scam in jita. Eve is a hatsh world. get use to it or go play something else.

Well, you brought it up... let's see the proof of your butthurt and the exploits that were used to cause your butt to hurt.

Until then, go away. Nobody believes you or that any court will give your silly arguments any credence.
