Someone please tell me I'm wrong, and that these guns aren't exactly the same damage-wise, except the T2 models have higher grid/cpu/cap requirements. I was messing around in Pyfa and it's not registering any difference in weapon DPS between one or the other with the same ammo (Antimatter L) loaded. What's the point of even training to use the T2 version if that's the case, other than to use T2 ammo (which I won't be, as I'm just running L4s)?

if you can use the tech 2, the tech 2 one will always do more damage due to specialization skills.

Javelin Ammo + more DPS due to Spec Skills make T2 way better than Meta 4.

They are the same.

Except T2 also gets a bonus from the specialization skill. This additional bonus makes them worth it.
That and t2 ammo.

Okay, but like I said, I'm not using T2 ammo for L4 missions. So really it's just the specialization damage bonus that matters, then?

Two Reasons.

1. The Specialization skill gives you 2% more Dmg per level and is a pretty quick train till lvl 4.
2. Long Range Ammo and Short Range High Tracking Ammo. (Goof in Fleet Fights)

T2 Ammo is much more effective in short range guns I.E. Hail, Barrage, Scorch, Null, Void. So you can get away with using L Meta Long Guns in most situations but T2 is just plain better and sometimes cheaper then Meta 4. So basically in Missions would be getting 6-8% from the Spec Skill and Higher Tracking Ammo if you want it for Cruiser spawns.

If you're steadfastly against using Javelin then yes (though I'd carry some; it's actually a great option now). Even with "just" the spec skill bonus, that's 8% more damage at level 4.

If you not worried about the extra damage why would even then bother training large hybrids past 1, and all the other support skills for that matter. It all adds up in the end . That small increase in damage will mean less shots fired, which means less ammo and if you save 1 volley per NPC over months of missioning that adds up. The same applies to tracking skills, better tracking better applied damage. I use t2 as often as I can for all my ships, missile and turrets. Try it and see the difference it makes to mission times. People need to get away from fit warrior'ing and try the fits in game.

Also t2 rails are cheaper than meta 4's.

Maybe because I'm flying a Navy Dominix, so while, yes, a bit more rail damage is nice, it's really not my bread and butter, and the time could be better spent training up Gallente Battleship V or something like that?

I don't understand why you'd be willing to put in the time to do Battleship V but not for the T2 guns, where quite a lot of your DPS will come from...new players these days

Well, if you ever think about flying large Hybrid's in an Incursion, you will be laughed out of the channel if you show up without T2 guns. Smart players recognize the value of T2 weapons, for beyond L4 missions.

I once saw I meta 4 rails fit armor tengu in an incursion fleet. If someone is desperate enough they'll take anything.
