Hello spacemen,

Im looking for some advice on the best 2 man ship combo to do level 4 missions with.

I normally run them with a dual armor rep ishtar solo but with my mate I was thinking we could maybe get more dps into the action to run them quicker.

He can fly mostly caldari/gallente BS and down ships but he could always buy a toon if it came to the crunch.
I can fly BS down gallente.

Throw me your ideas or advice.

thank you please.

Tank and Spank.

If you are already fine tanking the missions with your Ishtar get him to come in whichever ship he can fly which can apply the most DPS ASAP to the NPCs.

A glass cannon Hyperion or Mega would probably be the way to go.

If your going for alt boat with least amount of interaction aim for drone boat, launch drones, assist/guard main character, turn on rep/support modules (assuming cap stable). Your main can float more offensive modules.

Do be careful when you start out, I lost a CNR because I was overconfident with my setup.

Lafiel reread the post, second ship is for a friend not an alt.

I'd say try a Talos, not as pokey as a BS but still has the punch and can field some drones.

The Ishtar is a good choice. My wife and I will be running them in an Ishtar (me) and a Muninn (her, as soon as her training is done).

Can I haz your wife??? mine complains every time I log on..

I dual box in a Tengu which tank's entire rooms and still has 6 launchers and 3 CN BCS's to put out big dps and a BS. Currently in amarr so the second is a NM. I have found that using something that can do good damage to small things, Tengu for cruisers down with the drones from BS assisting and a BS to hit the big things hard works best. When I was in Gallenet space I used the tengu and a gank maelstrom with 1400 arty's. Using a tengu/BS combo I have found works better that a Tengu/Tengu combination. I tried using a CNR with the Tengu but found it slower than the other combinations. Tried rails many years ago but was very disappointed. Tengu is also nice if you get ecm'd, just load FOF.

So in short, tengu/NM for amarr and Tengu/maelstrom or maybe mach for others.

I use a artie Mael and a AC Mach. Works very well. tengu is a excellant ship. CN Raven might be a good 2nd ship option also.

You dont want a tank and a gank ship as has been suggested, thats a silly idea.. if you are gonna run the same mission with two toons you will want one toon that you would fly a typical mission ship with, and one toon that can tank hard without sacrificing its main source of gank.

This means your second toon would typically need to be a drone ship. (Missile and gunships take too much multitasking).

This means;
(In order of what is best)

Myrm
Ishtar/Gila
Dominix
Navy Dominix
Rattlesnake!

...I rinse a rattlesnake and a nightmare... The snake isnt overtanked (has omnidirectionals and sentry drone augmentors); means it throws out decent support DPS and I dont have to worry about the ship too much.

The nightmare does a great job, its range projection is just amazing, no better mission ship.... Two in duo would probably outperform my current setup (in other words... always go for as much gank as you can micromanage)

I'd like to better understand why you think my idea is silly actually.

If you have a ship which is fit to tank the mission (like the ishtar) while still dealing out as much punishment as it can, why does the second ship need to be tanked at all? Especially if you are looking at a ship which is run by another pilot (not alts - two people at the keyboard from what I understood).

2 tengus.

Drones are slow and boring. Unless you want to run two machs go with Tengu's. I could not even imagine the pain of running two Machs though unless there is actually 2 players than 2 machs will destroy everything in L4's with two players. Single player running dual box Tengu hands down.

Even with massive gun skills I still go back to the Tengus. PVE missiles rule just that simple especially when you are running two boxes.

Noctis made mara's useless. Sad but true.

I have some questions and observations, they're probably silly but please bear with me as the meds haven't kicked in yet.

1. OP is in a lvl4 capable drone boat already, an Ishtar, so your suggestion for a second ship is?

2. Your description of your Rattlesnake/Nightmare combo sounds like a "tank and spank" combo to me

3. The second ship is going to be piloted by another player, like Cyniac I read it that way also, so no multitasking issues.

4. A "typical" mission ship has to tank and DPS or it fails the mission, why does the other ship need to "tank hard"?

5. TANK HARD!!!! ..... sorry just wanted to put that there, the exclamation points are faction btw.

6. Are you Rick Astley?

1 DPS ship
1 Noctis

What?

To be fair, when i run missions, if i have a wingman the mission is slower.. Thats said

I guess the best combo would be a DPS ship to fast melt battleships
and a small ship which can fast kill frigates / cruiser

Start from big to small and from small to big.

As stated above, Bring in a marauder if able. If not a faction BS is advisable. More tank is not necessary as DPS IS
TANK.

The bad NPC's can't hurt you if you make them space dust first.

Bring moar gunz!!!

2x Domi or Navy Domi ( 900 DPS in optimal) work great together. Most fun I had was running Missions with a friend, both in a Machariel + MWD.

I also recommend 2x Tengu, but since you guys are Gallente, use the good old Spacepotato.

What I am effectively saying is tank shonever be a major consideration; I run a snake with my nm because im lazy.. its not tanked to the extent most carebears tank either; it has about a 500dps tank.

Having a ship dedicated to tanking is just wasting space, max out DPS wherever possible. Anyone who disagree's with this is likely to follow the schooling of "tank first, gank later" and is failing missions.

Gank whenever possible,; and if you are lazy with me, have a drone boat with a tank capable of withstanding enough punishment while you laze around, and a gunboat to do as much dps as possible. If you arent lazy; use two gunboats.

Clear now?
