Another ECM question...

I have a scorpion, and I want to use all 8 meds for ECM modules (Hypothetically speaking)

Now, from what I understand, Its best to fit racials because of their superior range / strength. But that doesn't seem very realistic if I dont know what I'm going to be going up against.

It seems to me like having 8 multispecs would have a better chance of jamming than having 2 of each type of racial jammer. And this really seems to be the case when engaging multiple unknowns....

I'd be grateful if someone could clarify this for me Ugh

Its more "feeling" that science. I prefer the rainbow setup...because even though you don't "know" what you're going to run into you do know what the statistical ship uses in EVE are...

I virtually guarantee that if you face a random fleet in space of 10 guys in BCs...4ish will be in drakes/naga, 4ish will be in canes/nados 1ish in a harb/oracle 1ish in a talos/myrm....so in general fit 3 cal, 3 minnie, 1 gal, 1 amarr

Now more importantly if you are taking your scorpion of to a fight you should use this thing called a "scout"

The "scout" will tell you the enemy fleet composition....you will dock and fit the optimal number of the appropriate jammers from your cargo hold...Voila!

I'm not being facetious. The best ECM pilots I have seen carry spares in the cargo and don't go into a fight blind. Information is the best weapon in EVE.

If you do not plan to engage more than 1-2 guys at a time (i.e. you are soloing in that scorp or you are ganking people) then the multis would be fine.

1 on-race jammer + 3 off-race jammers over time will get more successful jam cycles than 4 multispecs.

Multispecs against BS and recons really suffer in comparison to racial jammers.

If you have that many slots to fill with ECM, then you really want to use racials.

In low sec at least, about 80% of all the ships I see are either Minmatar or Caldari. If you roll heavy on their racial jammers you can't really go wrong.

Real Men's ECM is throwing a handful of spacedust in the face of your opponent, not using fancy gimmicky electronics

This.
If you are going against a larger fleet, favor Amarr over Caldari, for guardians.
Always have a Minmatar handy, their ships are everywhere and their sensor strenght is usually low for their class.

Multi-specs are useless. ECM is the highest risk-reward module in the game, and thus it's use is also 'all or nothing'.

Meaning you can only fit to the best you can, but it'll never be omni like the other EW types.
In exchange for having to fit within that 'what are the chances I'll run into xxx racial ship and not another?" restriction, you are rewarded with a monstrously powerful effect on an enemy.

Yeah, the chances of even getting the chance to jam any given ship in a fleet isn't exactly confidence inspiring- especially when you look at the tank on the ECM bonused ships (none to speak of) and know you are ALWAYS the primary for the other side- but no other module in Eve can essentially turn a ship 'off' the way ECM does, and for a freaking eternity in a real fight!

You will never match the enemy exactly, only take a best guess as to what you'll need. You will never be able to completely jam up any fleet that is going to stick around and fight. And, you will probably die before your second or third jam cycle even ticks over.....

That is the life of the ECM pilot. I have spent 3-4 real hours flying a Blackbird in a fleet roam, only to die within seconds in the first engagement we actually found. Now THAT is the real life of the EW pilot!!!!

Hear are some guide lines I use as an ECM pilot.

If I can only fit 3 ECM or less multi spec.

If I can fit exactly 4 one of each race.

If I can fit more than 4 I ask the FC what he wants me to counter.
Anti-logi: Amarr,Caldari,Minmatar
Anti-Ewar: Caldari,Galenta,Minmatar
Anit-DPS: Minmatar,Amarr,Caldari

The odds of you getting to use all 8 slots is low.
You will need, prop mods, EECM, and Cap boosters on some fits.

I wanted to paint my space ship red, but I couldn't find enough goats.
