Enjoyed the post. Well conceived and written. Cudos for you!

One question for you: What makes you think that how RMT works in the game isn't exactly how CCP wants it to work? Ok two questions: And how do you know that CCP doesn't already profit from it?

I've always asserted that CCP's bot enforcement is selective based on certain criteria not specific to botting as a problem but botting/RMT as revenue generation for CCP.

I also wondered about this but after reading many hours of web content i personally don't believe CCP is in on the "take". There are just to many reasons for game developers to hate RMTers - unless you want to get out the conspiracy that CCP is in league with the RMTers i don't believe CCP condones, encourages, ignores or allows RMTers.

While there are examples of how RMTing can increase CCP's income in the short term the long term damage outways them and CCP knows that.

I like the rise in plex price now that I think about it from these new angles. It really gives the RMT'ers a run for their money. Like if I spend 35 bucks now, I could get almost a Billion isk legit. RMT site would have to offer me double or triple that to make the risk worth even entertaining the thought.

kind of like a currency arbitrage or something.

I agree with Mr Kidd

CCP appear to be doing very little to combat botting / RMT.

There are many things they could to make life a lot harder for the RMT Merchants and for people who use bots that grab information via the client and yet they don't.

The only 2 reasons I can think why CCP seem very reluctant do more is the reason Mr Kidd gave or because they are inept.

As for the OP - Eternum Praetorian

I am sorry but you have made direct accusations against a player and alliance with zero evidence to back up your claims. This destroys any argument you have.

Either apologise or produce proof of your claims

This is an excellent Video

It states better then I ever could, how secondary markets costs CCP a great deal of money in the long run. The good stuff is towards the end. If you don't want to watch the whole thing, the part directly answering your question starts at time 6:00 & 8:30 (two distinct sections)

To be honest, I think it's for CCP to fix and wipe out. It's their game and their sandbox. I'm sure they are well aware of all the RMT's, Botting, Scamming programs out there. I play EVE to hang out with friends, shoot some stuff and have a laugh. I'm not going to spend my game time donning a hooded cape and looking for botters or anything else. The boys in Iceland can do it, that's their job.
On a side note, I have no clue how to spot a botter- none whats so ever, I live in NPC null and I've never seen a pack of miners at the belts mining away- never- not once. If I had I would have blown them up, but I'm not lucky like that, I usually end warping on to a pack of Drakes Lol

Exactly. The Minute CCP starts paying me to look for botters, I will be on it like flies on shit. But not until.

As long as there is RL moeny to be made, botting will persist. It really is as simple as that. One can attemt to limit it, but one can never get rid of it under the current monetary system.

Just remove local and the players will handle this.

No arguments from me Twisted
I might actually start playing again if CCP did that.

But TBH... I think the problem is a bit more complex then that for the reasons stated in this thread.

My theory:

Organized crime is making $$ from RMT and if anything changes to eliminate or severely damage botting, Hilmar gets a horse's head in his bed.

I have heard rumors of bots operating in WH space.
