Congrats to CCP for yet another Game of the Year Award.
http://www.eveonline.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=4867&tid=1

I was shocked to see them win due to the Incarna Summer Debacle but apparently Crucible helped them make a comeback. This proves you can **** and screw alot of people over, but they'll eventually forgive and vote for you again.

Though, please don't get too arrogant and start failing us now :)

No doubt Mittens will take credit for helping to revive EVE and win this award. lol

You know, sometimes you need to realize that what you do in a bedroom with a sheep suit and viagra is none of our business

This, just this.

If any real competition existed, maybe it would be different!

Who mentioned a bedroom? Wide open spaces with the breeze blowing through your hair for me!

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Alternatively it could mean:

Despite prolific posting otherwise, the number of people truly outraged is fairly insignificant in the greater scheme of things.

Or

People feel that a company making a bad product development decision does not actually constitute screwing over their customers.

Or

Near mindless hysteria has an expiration date.

Or

The gamers that voted actually took EVE as a whole into consideration, instead of one bad expansion.

Or

Any number of other things, put whatever spin on it you like.

None of that changes the result.

The fact that a game can win Game Of The Year more than one year is explicit in showing that mmorpg.com's methodology is sorely lacking.

Word.

Fun to see that so many actually acknowledges how good eve is in general even though they have moved on and don't play it anymore

Nah. It is explicit in show that the MMO industry's methodology is sorely lacking.

The competition is between EVE, WoW, WoW clone #1, WoW clone #2 … WoW clone #n. So just like with highsec CSM representation, the WoW players' votes get spread over n+1 games whereas the EVE vote gets focused on a single candidate… Blink

Can a 2003 car win the car of the year award in 2012?

(Yes it is a car analogy)

If it's the Top Gear Awards, then yes.

Also, the analogy kind of fails on a fundamental level, since it is not the EVE of 2003 that has won the award, but the 2012 version of EVE, which is a rather different game, much like — or even more so than — how a 2012 [random car] is different from a 2003 [same random car].

Absolutely. For example, the 2010 Honda Accord wins an award and then the 2011 Honda Accord winds the same award. There's not a whole lot changed between the two. The 2003 version of Eve didn't win the award in 2012, just like the 2003 Honda Accord didn't win the award in 2012.
