Surely, you do not think wine and alcoholic drinks is the only source of this?

No and I thought I had already pointed that out. Wine is simply a fermented grape drink. You could go to aisle 6 and pick up a jug of Welch's and get the same effects. This is because the ingredient Grape, is the catalyst in providing the items listed above (which of course grapes can be found in produce)

I take the occasional whiskey myself, or occasional beer/wine to my dinner. But alcohol is still a poison. As such I have made a conscious effort to reduce my intake these last years. I really have no need to be drunk, and much prefer to have my mind clear. So a glass of wine to my Sunday dinner, or a beer a Saturday afternoon while out with some friends is just dandy (but I tend to keep it to just one or two beers). I do not blame others if they want to drink as much as they want, they are free to do so as far as I see.

This is exactly what I explained in my previous post. The poison is not the drink, it is the user's inhibitions. Alcohol in excessive amounts does cause damage. It is the who user controls the amounts that they consume. In small amounts, such as your one beer or wine for dinner, is easily manageable by your liver, and thus isn't dangerous (Unless you learn that you're allergic to yeast).
I have the same argument with people who try to tell me that guns are dangerous. A gun is an inanimate object. It is neither neither dangerous or safe. It is the user who equips it that determines if the gun is dangerous or safe. And it is the user who picks up the drink who determines if it is dangerous or safe.
The poison is in your head. I know it was certainly in mine for some 6 years but I took control of it and can now enjoy the occasional drink, such as yourself, without causing physical or mental harm to myself.

Still, it is curious that alcohol is a legal substance in our society, and so many other substances are not while it is clear that alcohol is more dangerous the some of them.

Your answer can be found by googling the word prohibition.

I was hinting at the fact that a lot more substances should be legal. I see no reason why the state should tell me what to do and not to do to my own body. :)

So I am really curious as to why people still let the state boss them around. Not in the way that one person might try and stand up alone, but in general, why we the population lets us be dictated to be a few.

As for alcohol, it does have some physical effects as well, that is not good for you. But in moderation its is almost negligible. :) Of course the addiction is another thing as well.

Start the revolution then chief. Why do you follow the rules? If you didn't I would assume you'd be living in the mountains or in jail.

@ OP

These Stats are imaginary based on legal sales, where in the behjesus is that unrecorded number coming from ???????.

What you find in a lot of these countries is that making your own alcohol (beer/wine and illegal Moonshine 96%)
Is more common then purchasing it.

Three factors seem to play into this.

Nr 1 is were poverty makes this the only method of aquiring the alcohol. Russia, Eastern Europe.

Nr 2 Is simply cultural history of brewing moonshine and such (northern europe - some places in US retains this culture too i believe too (US person can maybe confirm if this is a stereotype or still a fact)

Nr 3 which seems to take over where nr 2 might have died out naturally is where the government tries to tries to kerb alcohol consumption by taxation and retarding laws. This is especially the case in Northern Europe (norway/iceland/finland)

When it all comes down to it the damaging effects of alcohol is not always directly correlated to the amount of consumption (taking europe as an example)

France and Spain aren't far off percentile wise off the UK in consumption however, where the UK has binge drinking, with mass spikes in alcohol related violence and illness every weekend more or less unmatched in the rest of europe.
France and Spain has a healthier relationship to alcohol based on a regular (daily) yet lower consumption each time alcohol is consumed.

This is the way a doctor will encourage you to drink. 6 Units a week is fine spread over a week it is NOT fine, healthwise consumed within one happy hour at the bar Big smile

Glad someone brought up the prohibition earlier. Norway is such a good example of government policy of "prohibition" going **** up. the more expensive and difficult they make it to aquire alcohol the more the sale of illegal alcohol increased. to the point where there was several years in a row, there was more deaths from badly distilled (methanol laced) russian black market moonshine then any other drug combined Shocked

in 16 years in the UK I never saw or heard of anyone distilling their own spirits in 2 years back in Norway I know at least one or two in every circle of friends I have who distill their own moonshine and dish it out to everyone.

I know It looks like I argued that alcohol is bad above, but I am actually for the government removing all drug related policies.

It is much more effective where the government by positive reinforcement spends money on making leisure activities available that do not work combine with alcohol (sports and such) then spending the money on trying to stop people doing what they will always find a way to do anyways.
