Remap Question: First time considering it. Need some advice.

From the broad stroke reading I have done on the forums I notice that at least the majority seem to vouch for long-term plans and focusing on tweaking their attributes to the primary-secondary of those respective skills for a year long train-plan.

I understand that and its not due to lack of patience that I don't follow that development path (I may end up doing so depending on the feedback I get here), I just wanted to have a better understanding of it as a whole.

(1) is it possible to have an all rounder? or at least in two different governing attributes (primary). for example: going INT/PER so it covers a larger range of skill sets? - is this a mute consideration and I lose out more than I gain?

currently my character is in its base setting (post learning skills being removed) with all being 20 with Charisma at 19.

(2) should I insure I am in a ship I am comfortable flying for the long haul prior to the remapping? or are slight deviations to the development plan during the year ok and not such a pain to do?

(3) Most important question of all really: Is there a real significant gain in doing this? I have loaded up EveMon and optimised by attributes to see hours or a couple of days knocked of the total time. But is there a large significant real-world/eve-world gain in doing that?

My account has been an on/off affair and only recently have I had the opportunity to go the long haul with it so despite its age I'm still learning and eager to understand the various mechanics at play.

I did Per\Int because I didn't know better, and I wish I had done Per\Will. Especially if you already have some of the base skills covered, it'd be much better to just focus on an area and train on that for the longhaul

You haven't said where you are skill wise so far, so I'll assume you have a reasonably solid base with regards to the support skills already. I'd suggest training any support skill you'll really want for the year, as well as training any skills with unusual attributes, such as trade, you want. Then remap Per/Will and train ship and weapons skills, before going Int/mem to finish your support skills.

As to whether it is worth it, balanced stats with no implants will get you 1800sp/hour as long as the skill isn't a charisma one. If you go for a focused map any skill you train that suits the map will train at 2250sp/hour, a difference of just over 3.9 mill SP per year. So it makes a big difference, but you lose a lot of flexibility, and odds are you won't exclusively train Per/Will skills under that map, drones being a particularly nasty one to train.

1) All-rounder: sure. Intelligence for most Support Skills, Perception for Ships (except T2), Guns and Missiles.
However, anything with Memory, Willpower and Charisma as Primary will suffer. Since you're still balanced at starting values, get the skills you need in those trees up first. Also, get +3 Attribute implants at least, if you don't have them already.

2) If you're remapping for anything besides Perception and Willpower, already having skills for the ships you fancy will help, ofcourse. Slight deviations remain possible always, but especially the higher ranked skills can become a pain in the arse.

3) Ofcourse. Just switching from +3 to +4 implants will shave off hours of your training times, so having maxed attributes in the fields you need will help tremendously.

I take it you have something like 2 remaps left?

I presume so as I haven't ever remapped (if I recall correctly). I usually didn't fiddle with anything I didn't understand that could be permanent (will have to go have a look see ingame to confirm).

oh forgot to ask...

do the attributes actively affect the skills when used?

No, attributes only affect training times.

Thanks for all the help Kurfin. One last question, after the two remaps, can I reset it again or must I wait for a certain period? Cause while I do intend to prob go my all rounder route, after the second remap, I don't see myself having gained ALL the skills i want. Just the ones I seem to desire up to BCs and associated support skills and potentially some mining ones too (not sure yet where I feel I want to be 100% profession wise). Probably thinking two I will focus on....so to sum it up. Will I be able to remap them to a well balanced distribution after? or do I only have two remaps ever?

btw Kurfin what sort of pilots do you look for in your corp?

After you have used your last remap you then have to wait 12 months to remap. You get 1 remap per year, and they don't accumulate, the 12 month timer starts once you have used the available remap. So if you get it wrong your stuck with it for 12 months, not life.

To be honest my corp is kinda dead at the moment, on the rare occasions I get to log on I'm normally the only one on. There are plenty of active corps out there, you could try the Recruitment channel in game or the Alliance & Corp recruitment centre on the forum. Being in an active fun corp id one of the cornerstones of enjoying this game IMO
