[CCP Navigator] Please respond...

Apologies for reposting this (sanitised), but I would like to ask you to respond.


When are you people going to learn to do these patch days properly!?

For the one millionth time: Estimate how long it is going to take, and then DOUBLE IT!!!
That way you avoid wasting people's time (yet again), and of course you can then only surprise on the upside.

Why do you insist on making yourself look completely incompetent... EVERY ... SINGLE ... TIME!??
What exactly is the logic underpinning the current approach?

Could I have an answer please? I really am very curious about this...

I love how you call CCP incompetent. What did the OP achieve today apart from reaching 11 on the whine scale.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Still waiting for CCP Navigator to help me understand why expectations management is so hard for CCP to get right.

I'm sure Navigator would give accurate info if he was the one doing it - I can only assume he gets the info from other people and they are the ones that cannot estimate.

You're obviously new here. Welcome to Eve! Here's your jar of salt, take one grain with every prediction CCP gives. 18 minutes at $15/month = $0.006....I have a sneaking suspicion you'll survive the loss.

When you patch a codebase as massive as Eve, it can be very hard to predict. Simply doubling the estimation won't work. If the patch can just be inserted and the server rebooted, maybe it takes 15 minutes. If there is a weird anomaly in the database, perhaps it can be 3 hours to troubleshoot it.

This is just a part of software development you'll need to learn to accept. No matter how much testing you do, moving modifications from a test server to a production server designed for 50k players can introduce unforseen bugs.

You have to cut the ops team some slack, trolling the player base with made up downtime estimates is the only fun they get around here.
