im a new player, so bear with me on these questions if they seem very noobish, lol.

ive decided which way i want to go with character build -

i want to be skilled in combat so i can protect myself and be good at fighting - i am also intrigued by exploration for radar site hunting for blueprints, skillbooks etc.... to make some isk income.

can i use a rifter to accomplish both of these things? i figure with radar site loot being small items, it will be ok that the rifter has limited cargo capacity. or do i need to skill up in two different ships?

ultimately, i would like to skill up combat ability (weapon, shield upgrades), exploration, and industry to be able to craft things and sell them from blueprints i find... is this a viable skillset? am i wanting to take on more than is possible?

if anybody has any thoughts/feedback, please offer it. if im completely flawed in what im envisioning as a character build, let me have it, lol.

you can use a rifter, yes... though you'd be better off using whichever frigate has the scanning bonus to hunt down the sites, then swap over to the rifter after you bookmark stuff.

never again say that you want to "craft" things in EVE. Everything here is "manufactured". Yes, it means the same thing ... but saying you want to mfg a battleship won't get you trolled as much as "crafting" a battleship. This isn't WoW Blink.

Since you want to do exploration sites, start off with combat/tank/exploration skills. Once you have those to 4/5, then start branching out (maybe a bigger ship, maybe manufacturing). ALWAYS keep in mind that "bigger" does not mean "better" (sure, you "can" fly a BS in 2 months, but you won't have the support skills, or the player skills to fit and fly it properly).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I would focus on a couple of those goals first. Splitting your skills up between combat and industrial goals will mean you'll be sub-par at both for an extended period of time.

You can clear most radar sites in high sec with a rifter without too much difficulty. Trying it in low/null sec would probably be a stretch. Exploration isn't necessarily the most profitable activity, but it tends to be a more interesting than many of the noobie activities that people pick up like mission running or mining.

Well to be short industry (mining & manufacturing), science (pbo research related stuff) and PvP oriented careers each take 10s of millions SP each so most people just suck it up and use alts for industry and science and main for PvP or vice versa.

In start is best to get you pvp related stuff in order as it's your first character since mission running/belt ratting is definetely easiest form of income in this game while benefiting you pvP skill set.
Also all exploration sites you can find have rats in form or another (player or NPC ones depending on your system security).

This a thousand times. A little part of me dies every time I see a 2-3 month old character toting a battlecruiser or a battleship. I have even fought some of them sometimes, and it was just sad (a battleship and battlecruiser killed by two Rifters, for example). Stick to frigates and cruisers until you have both the ingame skills and the piloting skills to fly bigger/more expensive things.

For hisec exploration, a Rifter can probably beat all of the radar and magnetometric complexes you will find. In lowsec, there are better rewards on average, but you might need an assault frigate or a cruiser to beat some of them. Rupture is a good choice. The combat plexes can be significantly harder, but are fun to do as a pair with a friend.

Anyway, sounds like you have a plan! Far better than most newbies. Welcome to Eve!
