...Why? They're not even the stupid 10,000 quantity 1 isk buy orders you always see either. 1.5b orders and stuff. Even with Margin Trading V that's ~300m sitting there wasting space.

people don't get that you can buy cap ships in high-sec.

it's the expectation to buy the cap at a specific station that is a little weird - but if you have seen one listed at that station before, why not?

As far as I know, there are still capital ships in High Sec locked on inactive players. Not all capitals have been accounted for when CCP moved them to low sec.

The way I understand it, they stick around until they are moved to low/null by the players. If CCP moved them all, why's the Veldnaught still around?

Vague possible reason I could think would be to attempt to set a price point in people's minds.

If I were a producer of carriers and I wanted to give people the general impression that a carrier costs 1 billion spacebucks then putting a buy order up for 90 days in Jita 4-4 and other hubs for 950m isk might be a way of subconsciously setting that expected price point - that way when people go to my low sec carrier store they have a expected price in mind and think they're getting a bargain when you sell them one for 950m.

Obviously it requires locking away 950m per order away in escrow (minus margin trading) and you'll lose the broker fee, but for 90 days you've got that order subconsciously setting people's expectation of a price point and you know you're guaranteed the order will never fill, leaving you holding overpriced goods.

That said, attributing to malice (or perhaps more accurately, cunning) that which can adequately be explained by stupidity is contrary to a certain razor and as such I'm probably overthinking it.

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/The_Veldnaught

"The Veldnaught was built in Amarr Prime back in 2005 using the manufacturing slots in Amarr VIII (Oris) - Emperor Family Academy. The manufacturing job was completed merely days before NPC restrictions to high-sec capital manufacturing were put in place.

At this time more capital class vessels were built in high-sec. While most pilots used cynosural fields to jump their ships into low-sec, the Veldnaught remained and is today the only confirmed capital class ship (excluding freighters and Orcas) located in 1.0 security space. While some might suspect that CCP would take action against the "offending" ship, it is (unofficially) acknowledged that the Veldnaught shall be allowed to remain in Amarr in appreciation for all that its owner, Chribba, has done for the EVE community."

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

there was a bug for a while where if you initiated a jump with a capital ship and did not have enough fuel for the jump you would only get part way. much like warping without enough capacitor. in this bug the capital ship would drop into a random system somewhere between the two systems it was jumping between. if it was jumping from low sec to a low sec on the other side of a high sec area it was possible to drop into high sec.

From what I recall it was a very short lived bug that was fixed a long time ago. but there were a few players that dropped caps into high sec using that bug. those caps can easily jump back to low null but can not travel through high sec using jumpgates. I recall reading something about any capital ships that where in high sec could not engage in any combat or they would be CONCORDED but if used for non combat like the VELDNAUGHT they were safe. A big waste of a capitalships potential but cool if you are the one holding it.

P.S. I thought CHRIBBA had a whole fleet of Capital ships in high sec that he re-purposed for mining. Never seen them first hand but I recall reading about it.

He has a fleet of four racial titans located in low sec, not to be confused with the dread in high sec.

With margin trading, the game is overly biased towards withdrawing money from escrow versus withdrawing from wallet. This means that, in theory, an order that is never filled requires near zero in escrow to maintain provided other buy orders are filled to bleed out the escrow money originally deposited. Furthermore, after the initial broker charge, the order only costs 100 isk per 89 days to maintain. Still, doing this with capitals in high sec is pretty pointless unless its being done for psychological manipulation as a previous poster suggested.

I actually have a fleet of carriers and dreads in another high-sec nearby. But only the Veldnaught is located in Amarr.

I thought it was some kinda piggy bank stuff,...
Set up a buy order and your money stays intact (less broker fee). No risk from the price fluctuation if you kept the money in the form of some item/BP

or just stupid

To trade a high sec cap is a crime for wich you will get a 2 week ban or even more..... Google it..... So even if you sell to that oder by mistake means you can get a refund.....
