What are recommended attribute settings? I was told I should put as many points into perception and willpower to more quickly rank up military skills.

Right now I have perception and willpower at 24 and everything else at 17.

Different skill groups require different skills. Drone skills are willpower/memory. As you've noticed, t1 ships and gunnery skills are per/wil. Trade/leadership/corp management skills are CHA/something else. I think t2 ship skills are int/whatever. Many support skills are int/mem.

In general, you should keep things pretty balanced, maybe with a little less charisma than the rest. If you want to optimize, you can plug a skill plan into EveMON and it will tell you the optimal attributes.

Okay, I'm about to accept a mission called "The Exam".

When I accept it, it will give me a catalyst destroyer. While I was waiting for the destroyer skillbook to finish I looked up the catalyst destroyer in the market. It says I need "Gallente Frigate Level 3". So basically, I lack the skills to use the destroyer.....I think.

If I accept the mission, and the game gives me a catalyst destroyer, will I be able to pilot it? Or just to a lesser extent without "Gallente Frigate level 3" researched?

Also, should I strip and scap my Atron frigate if it is going to give me a destroyer?

Thank you all you are a ton of help!

If it lists Gallente Frig III as a prerequisite, you need it to hop into the ship. It's good to train that skill up anyway - the ship bonus (you can see it on the description tab of the ship's info page) scales with your ship skill level.

In general people have multiple ships for different stuff they want to do...but for things like mission the catalyst would just be outright superior.

Btw last i checked The Exam has a warp disruptor guy in it so be ready =D

and yes you need ALL prereqs to fly a ship so you need gall frig 3

Id say yes to strip but not quite yet to the scrapping, the atron could still be of use to you as ship that's about as fast as a shuttle but with way more cargo then the standard 10m³

I sent you a message Nate, I've recently been helping out some new players get into the game and find the things they enjoy doing so they can find their particular niche in EVE. If you'd like some help in game, contact me and we can take it from there. Some good advice in this thread to get you started at least.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Marvellous "preview" destroyed my post ...

So to be short see this for turret calculations.
The math is out dated according to some but principals have remained the same (optimal, fall off, tracking et c.)

I need 2500 units of storage space to complete this mission. I only have around 230 to spare.

Why is it the tutorial missions give me a ship meant for hauling goods, an Iteron, but blocks me from the skills to pilot it? Says I'm blocked to train these skills on a trial account. How dumb is that? I get the ship but can't train the skills to fly it. Last mission for that particular tutorial agent and I can't finish it.

Must be one of those "we want you to sub" teases.

Lame. And extremely disappointing.

Do you mean the tutorial where you need to build a small ship?

Mission only says that you need 2500 m3 space IF you are going to transport that in your cargo - but you don't need to.

Option 1) You can build the ship at agents station so you don't need to move it at all. After ship is built you can finish mission at once.

Option 2) If there are no manufacturing slots available at agents station, you can built that ship elsewhere. When it is built, assemble it, activate it, fly it to agents station, then change to other ship and repackage the ship. Now you have the ship where you need it and can finish the mission.

More likely it is to perevent abuse with trial accounts by botters.

ahhh. Thanks for that clarification. I'm sure that'll work. I'm still suffering from EVE noobishness.

So I have found my first unstable wormhole.

I went through it.

I traveled to a random planet inside the system.

Security status reads as -1.0

I see no way to get back to the wormhole that I came though! How do I get back?

When I right click it displays only the planets in the local system but not the wormhole that I traveled through to get here.

How do I get back! I'm to much of a noob for nullsec!

*Crossing fingers for a reply before gank*

I am currently accelerating into empty space.

You need to bookmark the wh before you warp away. Otherwise you have 3 Options

1. Scan it down again if you can.

2. Pray the people who hunt you down feel pity on you you as a new player and point the way out (and I mean really pray)

3. Rightclick your ship -> self destruct, rightclick pod and do the same, this will take you to the staion where your clone is ( probably your starting system) and your new enough that the basic clone grade should fully cover the skills you have.

Harsh reallity is ooption 3 is probably your only real option.

LOL

Thanks for the info. This should be interesting.

I'll try to scan again and find an exit. I can't cloak of course, so its basically a race against time before someone finds me.

That is kind of dumb you have to bookmark it on both sides. I have it bookmarked on the highsec side....but it has to be marked on the nullsec side to? OH well, EVE noob lesson 234297 learned.

Another tip for next time you jump through a wormhole, bookmark both sides. If you right click the wormhole select Add Location and you can save the position in your People & Places. Now when you right click in empty space your bookmark should turn up next to the planets when you are inside the wormhole.

You have to do this as every bookmark (now known as location) is for 1 thing only, if you bookmark the WH on the hi-sec side it actually saves it like: Sytemname - X, Y, Z coordinates in said system. This is why bookmarking doesn't work for both ways in 1 go, the other side isn't in same system and at same coordinates.

Or in other words: When you bookmark wormhole, you are only bookmarking one *end* of wormhole. If you also want to bookmark the other end, you need to do that separately.

That's not a great idea starting out, as you have to get a lot of core skills (skills that affect all ships) and they tend to have intelligence as the primary attribute, and memory tends to be either primary or secondary. Once you have core skills, then you can focus on weapons and ships more (perception and willpower).

Some people try to do both with max perception = intelligence; 24p 24i 17m 17w 17c; but this leaves memory completely uncovered.

I recommend a more general mapping when you don't know what you will be training:

* 23 Intelligence
* 21 Perception
* 21 Memory
* 17 Willpower
* 17 Charisma

You will train nearly everything over 2k / hour with +4 implants, and you don't have to commit yourself to a training plan right away. Once you have all the core skills you could choose to switch to per > will to train more ships and weapons.
