Just wondering what experiences you guys have.

I was the victim of someone putting up a contract and when i checked the buy orders for the ithems the ithem had a buy order for 50% more. so i accepted contract and emidiatly clicked sell ithem but then the buy order was retracted. This must be a really risky scam, if you turn youre eyes away from the screen for even a few seconds you risk getting scammed youreself... Must say this is one of the better scams i encounterd..

Google "eve online margin trading scam". The toon he used to put up the buy order didn't have enough isk in his wallet to cover the purchase, so when you tried to sell, it auto-cancelled.

You got a snarky reply because this pops up here on MD a few times every week.

Nothing to see here, folks, move along.

That would mean that the scammer is an idiot. Like you, since You accepted a contract that had a buy order for 50% more. Did it never occur to you that the contractor might retract the contract itself if he would notice a better chance to sell it off? Even more so, as you probably didn't check the item's price history to see what the usual price for that particular item was.

The correct reply was "Margin Trading."

Also could you please stop being rude? It makes other believe that EvE is full of rude people and we don't want the rest of the world thinking this.

Google is your friend. Google "eve online market scams" and then have a good time reading.

Oh and while you're at it please read "Goonswarm recruiting scams" just in case you weren't aware of those either.

Frankly hardly a week passes without someone coming on MD and screaming about being scammed in one way or another. Maybe I'm the only one who searches Google for past scams to avoid. Wish more people would do so though because recurring threads like this frankly clutter up the joint.

edit: 3 likes? 3!? WTF? What am I? Chopped liver?

If you're going to go around insulting peoples intelligence why don't you actually type in an intelligent manner? Spellcheck is your best friend and using capitalization when you begin a sentence, believe it or not, actually goes a long way once it becomes habit.

Maybe when you get to highschool you can start discussing biology, kay?

Yes, cash is taken into escow unless you have Margin Trading skill. In that case only some of the cash is taken into escrow and the rest is taken from wallet when someone sells to that order. If there is not enough cash in wallet when someone tries to sell to that order, then that buy order will just disappear.

Given that it is false statements such as this which perpetuate this kind of scam one must wonder what your intentions are in putting such emphasis on this disseminating this information.

Margin trading - read about it. It has already been explained here.

And yes - we most definitely play a different EVE.

It is simple, if you are selling something to a buy order and it has a minimum number required. 99.99% of the time it is a scam.
