hello all,

just started the trial a couple days ago with a friend. we are loving it so far. so much depth in this game, its a bit intimidating at first. that being said, we are working through all the tutorials and the missions by the first agents and we are definately progressing. im pretty sure we will be subscribing....

we are both pretty open to what it is we are going to do as far as a "profession". what we would like to know, is what is a good profession combo for us to have beings that we work together alot, if not most of the time. we both will be playing roughly 25 hours a week since we have the same schedule, and we have a ventrilo server we use to communicate. i know my question may seem vague, but we are looking for a profession that has good income, and a profession/professions that will benefit by always having 2 people to work together in.

are there benefits to the 2 of us running together grouped as a fleet? is there an easier way to travel together other than just verbally telling each other where we are going? i guess i just need to research the fleet options a bit more....

i know we eventually need to get into a corp, but we want to hold off on that for a couple months until we have our feet firmly under ourselves.

any thoughts/suggestions?

As a pair of pilots you can easily do exploration, low level (C1/2) wormhole sites, lowsec roaming looking for fights.

However, I'd recommend that you two get in an established corp for help -- so you can avoid some of the pitfalls of being a newbie and not knowing all the mechanics (e.g. jumping from lowsec to hisec via a wormhole right after you gank someone). Do this sooner rather than later (though give this a few weeks til you know what you want to do).

DO NOT join any "newb" corps (newbie-friendly is OK though). What I mean is that you should avoid corps run by characters who are young (a few months or less), as they won't necessarily know the mechanics of EVE, as our little dystopian heaven is nothing like theme-park MMOs (e.g. WoW).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Piracy? There are some really nasty ship combinations out there for people working in pairs.

This, and other PvP.

There are also tons of PvE content that is easily done by a "tag team". Missions, for example, become quite easy when one person speed-tanks the whole thing (stays at 100+ km away, safe from harm) while the other goes in and shoots the enemies who are preoccupied shooting the distant one. This is particularly good in Faction Warfare missions, where the objective is usually to kill one or only a few ships instead of everything there. It cuts profits somewhat, since they have to be split, but it's still more ISK than newbies can normally get.

thanks for the replys

is mining a good occupation for a 2 man team? where one keeps mining and one keeps running it back?

was kind of thinking we both get good at exploration and mining to be able to tag team rare minerals.....is this a good option?

My knowledge of mining is limited, but I think the cargohold fills up way too slowly for it to be worth having a person dedicated to hauling. Of course, this depends on the ships being used, and the fittings, but I don't think it would be the most efficient use of a two-person tag team.

That said, it is definitely more efficient than doing it solo. So... try it, see how it works!

Edit: doing it this way also means that you likely won't engage in risky behaviors such as using jetcans to store ore.

There are actually a huge amount of things 2 pilots can do together:

Mining - 1 mining while the other hauls / boosts with Orca.
Missioning - 1 missions while the other salvages / both do the mission together to split the rats (makes it easier to run)
WH - 1 probes stuff, other runs sites while prober moves on to next site (or reships to help)
Exploration - see WH part.
PvP - Possible solo, more fun together as you can get kills more easily (1 pilot is limited in what he can engage)

EDIT:

Sorry for the off topic CCP Phantom, but going to repost a small part that was deleted the I see as constructive to my post.

I can tell you 2-man mining is actually very good when you get into a real mining ship (Mining Barge or Exhumer) as with strip miners your hold will fill very quickly and you can make it more profitable to have a dedicated hauler (or even an Orca next to you to serve as a huge can to drop your stuff while giving you boosts). Just keep in mind that mining (specially in high-sec) can be one of the most boring things you can do (and yes I like to mine, it's easy and gives me time doing other stuff in EVE like recruiting or helping other people (new players) with questions).

There really isn't anything a pair of pilots can't get into if they work together. Miner/hauler is a classic example of how 2 is better than 1. Your approach of finding hidden ore sites (Gravimetric sites) could be quite profitable, if you can find them. They don't last too long in high sec areas and generally don't give that much better ore.

I'd recommend giving it a try but not relying on it for main profit.

Fleets provide bonuses if someone has leadership skills and they also allows broadcasts. In general voice comms and broadcasts are used in fleets.

edit: oh and they also allow members to warp to each other, very very handy
