Oh, EVE. I wish I knew how to quit you.

So, I found myself pretty bummed out about EVE when a good friend of mine decided to quit playing. I haven't really bothered logging on lately beyond skill training. I had made up my mind to just cancel, since it didn't seem fun anymore. But, I'm a gamer and I like MMOs usually. I decided to shop around for something different to occupy my time.

Holy smokes MMOs are terrible today! I read a lot of hype on Guild Wars 2, but beyond that it's just an endless field of xp-grinding and arena PVP garbage.

And, so, I've come crawling back to EVE. It's often dull. It consumes time with no promise of progress or fun. It can get tiresome to look at. All that said, it's still the best MMO out right now.

Anybody else have a similar experience? Shopping around for a new MMO leave you completely let down?

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

yep new mmos being released are complete trash. EVE will be my last mmo knowing nothing worth a damn is coming out. Navy field 2 , D3 and the new and improved ffxiv are things i will try.

I have more space likes than you.

I share the same point of view than you OP. I can't stand grinding anymore. True I can't play EVE for endless hours like I did at some point on other MMOs. But overtime EVE wins.

I'm still playing Wow 3 times a week since I like raiding with some ol'timer game buddies, But the only reason I do that is because on Chinese servers you don't pay a monthly subscription but time recharges, so it's really inexpensive if you are casual.

EVE is like a good wine, it becomes better as time pass and you'll enjoy it a lot more if you take your time to appreciate it.

Basically, yeah. EvE's the only emergent gameplay MMO out there. So it kind of ruins us for other MMOs.

Given the recent climate, player attitudes and CCPs focus, I similalry I have been considering when I eject.

I'm paid up for some considerable time though on my main and was simply extending other accounts with plex. But at the moment I'm not thinking of extending my time beyond that atm. Just riding out the value of what I paid for.

I've said for a while that Eve is probably the best MMO out there out of all of them, but as a game itself, it's mediocre at best. I just keep up with it because I like space ships and the sort, but I've taken many long breaks in Eve before, and I probably will again.

I'm hoping once dust 514 and planetside 2 comes out, I'll be able to switch fully to one or both of those. I'm a big fan of MMOFPS's, and can't see why these would be different.

But when it comes down to Eve? The game is too slow paced, not interactive enough, and has a very VERY annoying user interface, even still after all the fixes. I also had a friend once who said something that really describes Eve very well for me, which is "If a game is so slow paced and non-interactive that people frequently play on multiple accounts just to have fun, then something is wrong with the game".

My 2 cents.

I can tell you how to quit EvE or any mmo in general. I have quit wow permanently, haven't played for over 2 years, main character had over 500 days played, and i have reduced my EvE play time to the amount that it doesn't interfere with my outside life anymore. I can tell you how i did it and how you can do it. All i'm gonna ask in return are two simple requests: a) you gonna have to listen to me and b) you gonna have to believe me. If you think you can meet these two little requirements then let me know and i will tell you how to do it.

I know the feeling. EVE has the one quality that most do not. The ability to make spaceships out of blocks. Then we are given the ability to break other people's blocks. If your into spaceships and like lego blocks, EVE rocks.

And yes, it does get boring and it sometimes requires one to logoff for a while. But in the end, we all come back. You never really leave. I sometimes goto sleep dreaming about ganking some poor hapless Raven pilot who just bought his ship with every last isk. It really is a good feeling.

AAA developers refuse to entertain the notion of creating sandbox MMOs with emergent gameplay, because there's very little chance of someday enticing ten million casual gamers to subscribe. Indie/small-time developers have attempted to create sandbox MMOs, but CCP is the only such company to have ever succeeded. The rest of them have failed — if not immediately, then within the span of a few years. Or if they didn't fail, they crawl along grotesquely with a minuscule skeleton crew of staff and players.

EVE is the one and only massively multiplayer online game I'm willing to play out of the entire crop currently still up and running. Hopefully, in a decade or two (or three), there'll be a flourishing indie scene that can produce niche sandbox MMOs with true appeal and longevity.

Once/ If Tera Online ever makes it out I will be gone again. I'm in your shoes but have been there long enough I come and go 3 months to half the year now. All my mains are at what I would view as Role capped and adding more SP is just something to do. I know I will never use 90% of the skills I trained unless it's on Test Server.

It's still EVE and a part of me defends it, feels a strange duty to it even but the new car feel is long gone.

As for other MMO's, EVE made me lazy. Grinding levels is par for the course in most MMO's and is content. The fact that I see it as a chore takes nothing from those games, it's symptom of habits I developed in this game that I need to break.

Not really. Most mmorpgs have some nice features, sadly not enough to keep me playing for long. And honestly, for me EVE is not really that exciting either. Not even sure GW2 will have enough to keep me interested for long now it's getting more and more like a WoW clone (hopefully I'm wrong). I'm afraid the existing mmorpgs just aren't designed well enough for me to stay interesting.

Just press the "cancel subscription" button and find something better to do with your life. ;)

I've been trying to quit several times now over the years. I've closed accounts, deleted characters, sold characters (hence this new one). I've been playing other MMOs but the sad truth is that while EVE is lacking other MMOs are worse. Each and every time I "quit" I came back 2-3 months later, not necessarily playing in an active way but mostly just idling while training up skills and chatting with folks.

The recent CCP turnaround has shown me that, once again, EVE might be interesting and fun to play. All they need to do is take care of Amarr/Minmatar/Angel ships, and TRULY work on low sec (I've got a great idea for it CCP, hit me up) in a way that shows they are fearless and can think long term, not caring for the short term whines of the people who enjoy OP stuff.

There is no other MMO like EVE out there, sadly. There won't be one either for a very long time for the simple reason that most DEV companies employ managers and marketing idiots, resulting in unoriginal, boring and soulless WOW copies destined for failure. We'll be stuck with EVE for a long time, lets hope CCP realises this and kicks out the mentioned manager/marketing idiots and ensures this stays a niche game because unless you're the #1 competitor the only way to survive is to stay niche.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

I've felt this way within the last 4 months or so, you need to find a corporation you can really enjoy and try something new if you haven't done it all already, even if you have, do the thing you enjoyed somewhere else. The recruitment channel itself is crap, filter through all the ones on the forum, pick out the ones you like and sit in there channels for a few days chatting away, then pick the one you like most, EVE is sonething that can be done alone but it needs high resources and you need to know your goals, but find the corp for you and youll never want to leave Big smile

Reminds me of the dog who looked through the hole in a fence. Seeing a bone just there he picks it up, but it's too wide to still keep it, and pull his head out of the hole. So, he stands there with the bone in his mouth.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.
