For some reason I bought one of these once and was just wondering if any fans of them around and how you set them up.

Well, i've noticed that d**k... er... vigilant just 1 day ago, involved in pvp battle. So... some people still like to use their... vigilants :)

Nah, that ship was a part of a large gang. I killed two of them before lost my own ship, but vigilant has survived :)

Ive been flying a vigilant since the patch, but not before so I can't compare. What I can say is that I like it alot and its becoming very popular amongst the folks I fly with. It does epic dps for a cruiser and can fit neutrons and a 1600 plate with awu5. Its pretty fast for an armor tanker (twice the speed of my brutix with a similar fit) and has good cap regen so you can actually use the mwd if you need to. The web bonus is just plain magic.

Edit: dat fit (all t2 except the mwd)

Highs: heavy neutron blasters
Mids: mwd/scram/web/web (can swap 2nd web for long point or cap booster)
Lows: 1600, suitcase, 2x magstab, eanm, anp (not enough cpu for 2x eanm unless you use imperial navy eanms)
Rigs: 3x trimark (or 2x trimar/explosive pump)
Drones: hammerheads

With navy eanms, low grade slaves, and my less than max armor fleet boosts i get 50k ehp, 900+dps with heat. 1300ish m/s without heat.

With high grade slaves and a maxed legion booster w/mindlink you can probably get at or above 70k ehp.

I used to have a clever sig but I lost it.

No left atm but here is the fit I run:

[High slot]
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, navy antimatter or null

[Mids slots]
Warp dsruptor II
Large shield extender II
Fed navy stasis web
Named MWD

[Low slots]
Magstab x3
Teaching enhancer x2
Dam ace control.

If you engage bonked neuts or heavy nuts you die. Keep out oh range from medium neuts with the 14k web. Tank stuff then gtfo. Get a loki booster for awesome :D

Oooh, great thread. I picked up a Vigilant on buy orders yesterday... only took like 3 months to fill! Do you guys have any trouble convincing people to engage?

Ed: Also, where are you guys flying at? Low? Null? WH? HS?

I'm an idiot, don't mind me.

It fits for me with a genolution CA-1 in slot 1.

EDIT:

A 10mn Digital Booster rockets will make it all fit without the need for a PG implant.

mwd takes 150 grid.

heavy neutron IIs.

You need AWU 5 and some other perfect skills so the drawback of using active stuff is reduced to it's minimum.
You can also buy a cheap +3implant on your LP store, it's a 6th slot hardwiring CR4 or 3 can't say exactly (there's one for cap regen and another for +PG)

Not only everything fits in but the you can spit on your brains some +5tracking +5 all turrets dmg and +5 med hybrids dmg.
With a decent fleet and Loki/Legion boost you get a hell of a tank and a freacking theoretical dps of 1050dps OH.

And then you start using it every time, then you cross another Cynabal in some systems with no back up and you start sweating and hand shaking because 30km point, 3500m/s with no implants/boosters, 32km range with faction shortest range ammo and about 52 with Barrage.

Epic fight for once, this is awesome.

It's what made serpentis ships always be decent coupled with the extra dps bonus.
With recent changes to ammo and guns these ships are just incredibly good at applying dps once in the range envelope that is now between point blank and max disruption range unless Lachesis/Arazu.

As Gallente ships they still miss mobility, or at least acceleration/top speed, let manoeuvrability and highest speeds to Minmatar

Shield Vigilant with Neutrons and a Federation Navy web does insane DPS at long range. The perfect nano-ship killer.

Holy Satanic Christ! This is a Goddamn Signature!
