Hi to all.
Sorry if I'm posting in wrong section, this one to me at least sounded more accurate.
I have 2 questions about ship and corp.

So, 2 friends of mine and I started playing EvE, for about month ago, one of them is playing casually for over a year as a miner.
We don't really do missions as we want to play more together, so we do couple of missions etc, but trying to find a way of playing together and have more fun.
Yesterday we tried to go to low sec sector for some mining to see how it goes, we were there 5 minutes after what we poded back to the station :) (yes I know: "noobs" :P but it was fun :D )
Anyhow, we are working on our skills and ship(s) but we saw that we will need some assistance to survive in this game.

So my first question is:
What is the best way for searching an corporation, and when to search for it ?
(as, should my ship be full fitted first, for corp to even consider my application? )

And second:
I'm currently running Rifter, lot's of skills trained, working on certificates (as planed from EveMon), but when should and should I move to bigger ships (example Trasher or any other) ?
(I understand that it's easy to drive a ship, but to fit it is something else)

Please, I would appreciate any help on this 2 questions, as stated we are complete rookies in this game, but we are willing to play it and learn in the process of the gameplay.

Kind regards.

This will all really depend on what you want to do in Eve. You say you're not doing missions and your friend has been doing a lot of mining, well if that's really what you want there are dozens of corporations in highsec looking for more miners and that don't really require any kind of SP or assets. Try having a look in the recruitment forum or looking at the recruitment section ingame.

However, I have to say that these run-off-the-mill highsec mining/missioning corporations are generally not the most interesting corps around and they tend to failcascade when they get wardecced, but if you just want to play with your friends it will be a good way to get to know a couple more people before you move on to the next thing.

Try to find out what you really want to do in Eve. Mining is a profession that people do 'on the side' while reading a book or studying or something. It's also a rather limited path and after you can fly a Hulk there's not much more interesting stuff you can get. If you friend is stuck up with mining but you're training for a Rifter and would rather do combat, it could mean a pretty serious difference in goals.

Also, if you can fly a Rifter and you have destroyers 3, you can also fly a Thrasher. Just save your ships, all ships have different purposes. I'd move to a Rupture after that.

As for moving to a larger ship, probably best done after training up the Core Fitting skills and the ship skill as well.

Going from a Rifter to a Thrasher is no big deal. Essentially, Destroyers are like big frigates with more guns. The more guns part means they'll finish missions faster as they can pop the rats faster than a frigate. Neither has much of a tank to think about as you just can't fit all that much on them. Their best defense is to not get hit. In missions - you can kite the rats and kill them with long range guns from a distance - in PVP you can move at an angle to them so that bigger ships with bigger guns have more trouble hitting you.

Getting into a Cruiser is a bigger deal as you can start having issues with how you tank your ship and manage your cap (though that's less of an issue with Minmatar ships).

Hey guys, thanks for reply's =)

EvE is a huge game with a lot of stuff to think about and work around, any help is appreciated =)
So best way would actually be when a frigate is fitted to move let's say to destroyer, when he is fitted move to other and so...
Ofc if you want to move to bigger ships, as what I heard, you can drive a Frigate entire gameplay if you wish..
Moreover, your reply's and this topic was of great assistance to me and my friends, thank you all, and if you think of something also worth mentioning please post :P

You should look into Eve University. Its a player organization dedicated to educating new players. They should have a recruiting thread in the recruiting forum.

Driving a frigate only style will make it harder for you to earn a living. It can be done though, but be sure that is what you want.

I would recommend you get BC skill to III and medium weapon system to III for starters. Then head for both at IV. That will be sufficient to provide you with initial earning potential.

Then focus in what ship group you want.

Disclaimer: I do not actually play this game, I just forum warrior.

I completely agree with those recommending EVE University; this organization helped a lot of people to find their way in EVE.

As for choosing the next ship, I guess it depends, first and foremost, on your play style. I know many players who go straight for the "big guns" (yours truly included), and many more players who strictly stick to smaller and more nimble craft (such as interceptors, recon ships, etc.). Don't be afraid to try different things; apart from getting valuable experience, it might prove beneficial in the future should you decide to develop your character in another direction.

If you decide that mission running or Incursions are up your alley, I would recommend to go bigger sooner. If you decide that PvP is your thing, I would recommend going "better" sooner: training up Engineering, Mechanic, Electronics, Gunnery etc. There is plenty of fun to be had and ISK to be made both ways.

Drop me a convo in game (on most nights) and I'll answer any questions you have if I'm able to. I'm station sitting for a couple of days so I will have the time.
