I don't like the fact that the backstory is dumped in "archive".

CCP Alice, why the decision to go with brighter, grayish colors for main sections in the new web visuals?

Ingame EVE leaves a great impression of it being a dark and cruel place - it is in space after all. :) The new design does look modern, good and cool, but at a glance it looks like the web site is advertising something different than EVE.

Expansion Feature Pages, and EVE GATE have awesome colors schemes... Love what you're doing with nebulae in the background and the general feel of elements with transparent borders, but bright backgrounds with dark font colors just don't feel EVE-esque enough.

Awesome work otherwise!

what are your plans with EVE gate? Do you have any devs iterating on that?

I think you need to make your advanced corporation management, event planning and corporate and market reporting tools in there.

CCP I've created a corp management studio as a personal project/something for my corp - if you ever want a demo please contact me. Right now its focused towards group skill management but I've mocked out all the features I mention above.

All of this stuff is neat and a lot of people will maybe be interested in it.

But really the first thing you should do is make the forum stop eating posts.

-> (sig)images are still gonez.
-> dev/gm/csm/isd tag on topic list still doesn't link to their first post in the thread.
-> default style is horrible and lacks tens of customization options starting from ability to remove background image and use full width of the screen to browse forums.
-> signature editor fails with urls.
-> bb function to post fixed width text is missing (bb code-function)

.... to name few that come to mind right away.

edit: ...and the old good bbcode parse error when posting links with % and quoting/editing that post.

Get classic forum style - custom videos to captains quarters screen

HTML5 !

Both the star map and the ship gallery are using WebGL (through html5 canvas).

Cool

Nice. Looking forward to see the new page.

Quick recommendations off the top of my head :

The copy writing on the Pirate description needs a bit of work. I understand this is all WIP and I don't expect an explanation - just saying it to say it.

Also, I think some emphasis should be put on the amount of time it gets to that position. That's just from a perceptual viewpoint when you get in game to go pirating immediately you have a lot of competition out there and a lot to learn. I'd say that you need to emphasize inter-pirate warfare too such as "Fight for the best pirating territory from other pirates!"

A lot of time pirating is actually spent protecting your turf from other pirates. Also, not everyone who lives in low sec is a pirate, some are anti-pirates. So, I think that adds something to the whole profession that people are not seeing on the initial level. You gotta earn your grub around here!

So, for all the professions try and see the next layer down that really makes the profession feel "Real" when you write the copy down. The devil really is in the details that makes some of these professions awesome.

With a lot of the player made game content you can also be a Gambler (EOH Poker, Blink, other lotteries), a politician, a community developer, a forum troll (this one is important), a scammer, etc.

EDIT : I agree with the above person - emphasizing that you are doing Piracy to other players is something to make sure is clear. Many players think of an MMO and then think that they're going to be doing stuff to NPCs all day. This goes back to what I said about fighting for the pirating turf.

About "Fight for the best pirating territory from other pirates!": I think they can just add some more questions or even make a series... (I think it is even the plan).

About "anti-pirates": I can imagine somehing like ANTI-PIRATE I lie in and wait for ships: with options like: [1] I love to kill bad boys. [2] Im a pirate, but call myself a anti-pirate. etc...But what worries me is, that they will come up with profession which are currently not really exist, like Bounty Hunter or Smuggler etc... it would be more annoying for new players, because false/misleading professions is still better than not really existing professions.

About the new look: Looks great, could be a little bit more grey and darker, but it looks really nice, looking forward to ship-spinning. Big smile

I would love to have those classes ingame. See here:

I would love to see a way to be able to click on a "channel'" and be able to view in game footage live.

the Live footage would be coming from pilots flying a cloak frigate with a Camera mount.
Make it age verified encase goons try to pull something off that is not appropriate or though of.

They pilot would have limited tools to edit the live feed on the fly,
-Static,
- Random Missile Cam,
-Instant Replay or Reverse
- Limited Blocking tools.
-Zoom In Feature
-Cut to commercial (pre-made by CCP)
-Audio Querps (pre made by CCP)
- Info Cut out like 3d Ship read out - to explain the ship that was just killed.
-Cut in Pre- Made Text Quotes.
-Able to cut from 1 camera ship to another.
-Able to include eve selected music

Things NOT to include:
-Text Chat,
-or Live Eve Voice audio
-the Pilot over lay.

Only a few pilots would be interested in playing this portion of the game, but these few would be able to show the beauty of the world live as it happens to the world.

Welcome to the Eve Channel!

Someday I will have the time to play. For now it is mining afk in High sec. In Cheap ships

I'd be careful about the whole "playstyle" thing, it might give the impression to a newbie that they have to conform to one of these predetermined styles, when obviously that isn't the case at all.

I think you have a good point. Maybe in addition to including these awesome new playstyle screens, you can also include a page with a CCP version of the (player made?) "what to do in Eve" chart? I don't have the link, but I'm sure someone here can provide it.

Yep these are good points and something I feel aware of as well. It's much appreciated to get this kind of feedback on it too, so thank you both. It's a balance between getting across that you can define your own path/gameplay style and that this can change (or be a mix) like you say, and also being able to give people an insight into what that means through showing them tangible examples.

While I'm neither a content designer nor a marketing person, I have two suggestions. These are similar to how I get new members of my corp excited for EVE, so I think they should work at least on some people.

Keep repeating the words "other players" over and over and over. I am a pirate, I kill other players for profit. I wait at a gate for other players to come through. I am an FC, I command a hundred other players so that our player alliance can conquer the enemy player alliance's territory. I am an industrialist, I build ships for other players in my corporation. Remind the reader over and over again that none of this is a "click butan" quest some NPC gives you, that EVE constantly revolves around interacting with other real people.

Second, add a last page after all the professions, saying "Now it's your choice. Who will you be?" And the list saying:
  • Will you fly solo or with other players?
  • Will you join a player corporation, or start your own?
  • Will you help other players you come along, or will you destroy them?
  • Will you fly fast, nimble and stealthy, or tough and powerful?
  • Will you build your own empire, or explore unknown worlds?
Et cetera, five or so bullet points. End with a catchy line, like, "EVE Online. The choice is yours. Brave to be bold, pilot!"

Read the first 2 pages then hit reply.

As Eve is subscription based, saying it is free to play is beyond misleading. Stating there is a free trial (and ofc providing a link) would be far more appropriate.

I love the idea of having an influence map in there somewhere in the sovereign space section. Sov is one of the core ideas that makes eve so great, even if the mechanics need some work.

Nice on the career paths, too.

Great stuffs! I love seeing the overhaul ideas of the site.

You could definitely encourage a bit more RP by moving the lore and story of EVE into the EVE Information section (out of the Archive) as someone else mentioned.
The skeleton of EVE is a damn fine structure, but with fleshed out lore EVE becomes one sexy *****.

On this picture: Absolution ship info

I couldn't help but notice that you are categorizing all the ships completely differently from how it is done in game. Here you categorize by race first, and then have all your various sub sections, again different from in game sub-sections....

I think it would make much more sense to provide a uniform categorization hierarchy across both the site and game. Please consider changing this to how it is done in the game, with hull types as the primary starting point...

Wow I love some of the suggestions for the career path / gameplay styles ! Taking it all on board :)

The new eveonline.com has lots of backstory woven into the content (CCP Delegate Zero has done a brilliant job), which is great. So when it came to converting all the pages on "old" eveonline.com into a more organized Community specific website, putting the backstory pages in the archive was more a temp holding place than desire to kill them. All okay now though, they're not there any more.

Want to know what would be great, and really useful? A common login across all websites. I am tired of logging into the forums just to have to re-log into secure.eveonline.com or some other part of the site that requires me to log on. As a web developer myself I find it absolutely MIND BOGGLING that EVEs websites are so segregated like that.

We hear you and are working towards this :)

What would be even better is for CCP to acknowledge that a large portion of their member base have multiple accounts.

- Group all accounts to one login
- Login once on website and choose character to use (as suggested above)
- Login once on eve launcher, then select a character and launch a client with that character ... select another character and launch another client etc (launcher remains open)
