In hindsight, it's so damn obvious. Someone needs to register that as a business method patent.

edit: Also, I recommend putting the plate next to the toaster in order to catch the grilled cheese when it pops/flies out.

doesn't work with my toaster, unless you want cheese stuck to the metal inside that grabs the bread.
