You loose skill because it's a fact of life as a pod pilot. As you gain new experiences you need to have a more capable clone in your pod to retain it all. If you decide to not maintain that edge, then you loose it. You decided to not maintain the edge (either through lack of reading the fine print, a conscious decision to save isk, or you just refuse to make isk and are poor).

Now get that civilian mining laser out and earn that isk! or shut up after you simply screwed up.

You don't loose it, you lose it sheesh. Not like it needs to be tightened.

But you only lose skill if you don't upgrade your medical clone.

To make sure that bad players rush to the forum and whine about their loss. Thank you very much.

Looks like I need a new tears jar now.

your not nice please do not troll my post...kthxbye

You're trolling GD with a thread claiming to be a new player to EVE.. in nearly a 3 year old toon. Obviously complaining about an easy to understand mechanic that is explained in tutorials and should never happen when you sit in a station and explore your options. Namely medical bays.. I see a new icon new to my eyes, I click and find out everything I can about it.

If this is all even true.. and I still believe you're BS'ing just to make some demented point about how harsh EVE can be to people that can't mentally handle it.. the first pod death should have clue'd you in. If it didn't.. reap what you sow.

My EVE account has been off and on a few times, all iv'e ever done is missions. I have nothing bad to say about PVP i have not really tried it...so i dont really know anything about it. All i've done is asked why this happens, whats the point of it?

Its a way of removing isk from the economy. I.e. an isk sink. If neglecting your med clone did not have a harsh consequence, then noone would pay the isk to update their clone.

Create date means nothing in Eve. This game loses more new toons within their first 2 weeks then every other mmo out there combined. Sometimes they come back; till they're podded again.

Create date means nothing.

If anyone ever looks at you and says,_ "Hold my beer, watch this,"_  you're probably going to want to pay attention.

Your character, in the pod, was killed. This starts a transfer of your consciousness, memories and thus skills to your nearest medical clone. Unfortunately your clone could only hold x Petabytes of information and when your consciousness, memories and thus skills were transferred you lost the overflow as there was insuficient storage.

Why does this happen in game mechanic terms? To teach you about the balance between risk and reward. You risked those skillpoints when you flew without having an updated clone. Somebody punished you for that mistake. You've now learned about EVE online; a cold and harsh universe.

Welcome. I hope your next lesson is not as painful.

Its called 'death penalty' the penalty in eve is designed to give you the impresion of REAL danger.

you cant just go blindly stumbling around the place ignorant of whats out there. there is a death penalty in every mmo, some are negligible some are harsh.

you just failed to learn what that was before starting your journey.

Is the penalty too harsh? Could CCP do more to inform you? Maybe, maybe not. This is Eve Online.

Ok, i'll admit I have not played EVE that long and i'll admit it's my mistake but i feel it's a little harsh....I was pod killed twice and lost 40 days worth of training, i had no clue this could happen and I just wonder why you lose skill when your killed? I could see it happening to a red or a aggressor but in my case i feel it was quite harsh sense all i did was enter my first wormhole just to check it out...

You trained past what your medical clone can hold as far as SP's are involved. The current mechanic doesn't remind you when your medical clone becomes obsolete, so you just have to remember to update it.

This would have been avoided if you kept your med clone up to date. It costs ISK.

Um do the tutorial next time? Seriously noobs get free clones with enough SP to give you at least a little bit of time to figure things out.

Is it even possible to lose 40 days of training?

Last I checked you only lost your level 5 of your highest skill. For me that would be 19 days for large laser 5.

And if you'd have bothered to do the tutorial, you would have gotten to the part that says update your damn clone.

Because Eve is a harsh, cold, unforgivable, cut-throat scifi-simulator.

So what happened to the swear filter anyway? I'm sure we never used to be able to say shitpost, hence the phrase "shiptoasting".

Regardless yes, creation date means nothing and frankly I think this is a legitimate complaint. This is something that adds complexity, but complexity != difficulty != fun. This is just a thing that exists within the game and catches people out occasionally. If I'd lost 40 days of training time i'd be pretty pissed.

A clone contract should mean a clone contract. Once you sign up to it, the amount should be automatically debited from your account when you die. You'd still need to keep your contract up-to-date to avoid skill-loss, you just wouldn't be bumped back to the ****** starter clone every time you die. If you don't have the isk safety net needed to pay for your clone however... oh well.

CCP. Fix THIS.

Takes less effort to update a clone than it does to logon. Can't have it THAT easy!!!

40 days? Ouch. Our corp sends emails periodically reminding us to update our clones... because it hurts so much when you forget.

Honestly though, it really should be possible to set it up so that you auto-buy a clone of the appropriate grade when you're podded; I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't want to buy a new clone as soon as I got podded, ever. At very least there should be a popup saying something like "Your clone contract has been reset, would you like to buy a new clone contract now Y/N?" to remind you.

if they do that, the whiners will clot the forums, just look what happened after simple module name change.

some people WANT the game to be as obscure as possible so they can brag how hard game do they play to raise their deflated ego.

I'm tempted to dis-believe the op, several weeks ago I got podded and forgot to update the clone before getting podded again and all I lost was 11 days off of battlecruiser V so not even the whole skill.
