New player, question about salvaging

For a new player salvaging is worth it. The reason salvaging goes down in value is that as your skills increase you start earning LP and Bounties faster and your salvaging does not speed up nearly as fast. Not having savagerIIs I made a Noctis with 5tracors and 3 salvagers, works about right. If you aer in a corp find a more experienced player who is running 4s for bounty profit. Because cleaning up for them will likely pay better than running your own 3s. That and you will be fleeted with an experienced pilot who can likely give you good advice on how to proceed. Because missions get boring and we like to have folks to chat with...

90% of of the time my posts are about something I actually find interesting and want to learn more about. Do not be alarmed.

"Is it worth it"? You need to define "worth it."

If you define "worth it" as "maximum isk per hour" then you will reach a point where your shooty skills will out iks per hour your salvaginjg skills as people correctly pointed out already.

Personally, I afk missions in a Gila and then salvage in a Noctis afterwards. (I own 3 Gilas and 3 Noctii, one paair of ships for each part of the universe I live in.)

I enjoy salvaging due to the convenience it brings me. Just yesterday I needed a Dominix in a remote part of space where everything is extra expensive. I just happened to have a Dominix BPC laying around and I went through and reprocessed everything I had in station that wasn't worth keeping. Suddenly I had enough Tritanium for a Dominix with about 3.5mil Trit left over. And that's just from one system. I mission out of 4 systems in that region, all which have boatloads (literally) of goodies.

I am fully aware that if I were to focus 100% on killing that I would make more isk/hour. However, if I wanted to focus on maximum isk/hour I would go trade. I can make about 100-500 mil isk per hour there. However it's painstakingly difficult and drives me insane doing all the research and calculations and .01isking. (I still do it when I need some isk. In fact I recently invested about 800 million isk. Ugh, and I really need to go update my orders and play the .01 isk games. :( I'd rather go salvage...)

Salvaging relaxes me. It is "worth it" for me to salvage my missions because it keeps me sane while providing me with income.

To each their own, however. It's your EvE, and so long as you are enjoying yourself, you are playing the game properly.

Killing stuff first of all, In level 1-2 missions the salvage is pretty pants. Once you hit lv3's start thinking about it, maybe fitting up a Salvage Cat, (or destroyer of your choice if you don't want to train Gallente frig, it's just the Cat does it best)

3x Expanded Cargohold II

Angels, Blood Raiders, Sansha, Amarr and Minmatar tend to drop the better stuff, though Gallente and Serpentis aren't too bad.

Re OP.

I only occasionally loot / salvage, even if it's a fairly lucrative mission. For me this is because of a combination of:
1. Not based in any one mission-running location for very long. I run missions all over the place and usually do not see the hassle of dragging a salvager along as being worth it. I do have a perfect skilled salvager alt and, of course, did salvage and loot religiously in w-space.
2. Even with an uber-salvager noctis I figure the time it takes to loot / salvage is more lucratively spent running the next mission. When I am pushing missions I am running two or more in tandem and usually two-ship dual-boxing. Turning them over quickly does not leave me the capacity to also run a salvager.

Excellent stuff, and very interesting.

No doubt there will be variation in completion times and in items / values, but I think your efforts there are going to be of pretty wide interest ... and no doubt also useful for your marketing efforts :-)

Good luck with that.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

As a new player, I say go for it. Get a destroyer, get some salvagers and tractors on it, expanded cargohold in the lows, and have at it. I would run say 3-4 missions, bookmark each location of the mission, then go back and salvage them. I think a lot of people are forgetting how that extra 100,000isk can really help a new player. Good luck!

Yes and yes...

Yes, we only do business in Osmon at the moment, which is no big deal. If you're not in Caldari space and dont do missions out of Osmon, this doesnt apply.

And yes, we are short handed at the moment. We do as many salvaging contracts as we can physically do, but if there are no salvagers on, then its hard to take care of it... right? Its the customer's responsibility to make sure there are salvagers on who are able to make the service work BEFORE contracting it to us.

Either way, we have an awesome system and it works well for people who use it... And we're still looking for salvagers and mission runners to join our happy family.
