Ok, i'll admit I have not played EVE that long and i'll admit it's my mistake but i feel it's a little harsh....I was pod killed twice and lost 40 days worth of training, i had no clue this could happen and I just wonder why you lose skill when your killed? I could see it happening to a red or a aggressor but in my case i feel it was quite harsh sense all i did was enter my first wormhole just to check it out...

Because you neglected to pay the price of updating your med clone.

You ignored the warning message presented to you.

If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain.

Trust me i get that now....but the question is why do you lose skill for being pod killed? Is it a isk sink...i do not understand why this happens.

40 days? Ouch. Our corp sends emails periodically reminding us to update our clones... because it hurts so much when you forget.

Honestly though, it really should be possible to set it up so that you auto-buy a clone of the appropriate grade when you're podded; I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't want to buy a new clone as soon as I got podded, ever. At very least there should be a popup saying something like "Your clone contract has been reset, would you like to buy a new clone contract now Y/N?" to remind you.

Clones only keep so much skill points when you die, you can upgrade your clone using station medical services, when you doe, your medical clone is reset to the basic model, which only keeps a small amount of skill points, so before going out again you must upgrade it again. You can check what level your medical clone is by looking at your character sheet.

(^assuming total noob^)

edit: Yes, it is an isk sink, it is also an idiot trap.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Sometimes when I post, I look at my sig and wish that I'd follow my own god damned advice.

To make sure that bad players rush to the forum and whine about their loss. Thank you very much.

Looks like I need a new tears jar now.

This is what happens when you don't pay attention to Tutorials and/or other player advice. How many people close Rookie chat the first day they log in, and every day after until they don't see it anymore? Quite a few I imagine.

This isn't really your fault, and I'm not saying that, but there is some measure of help in the game to prevent you from discovering it in this fashion. Losing 40 days of training sucks.

If you weren't aware of that, then I have to ask: Are you well-versed in optimizing your skill training? That could help to recover some of your lost time, if you weren't already using it.

Much as I have a certain animosity for EVE University, (Corp. in game you might have heard of), and Agony unleashed, (Another one), I would suggest to you that you look them up, or at least visit E-Unis wiki and forums: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Category:Skills

Some helpful stuff there.

I only really dislike some of the Directorship and certain aspects of the way the Uni is run, so my animosity is fairly shallow. Agony Unleashed just happens to be closely related and some experience with them has lead me to feel similar animosity regarding them. That might change, one way or another.

That being said, many people like the Uni, and many people hate it; it all depends on how you feel about it, that will determine what it means to you.

Also, I know the CEO from other games as far as I know, (No mistaking that voice in Vent or Mumble, or anywhere really), and he's a good guy in my experience.

You're trolling GD with a thread claiming to be a new player to EVE.. in nearly a 3 year old toon. Obviously complaining about an easy to understand mechanic that is explained in tutorials and should never happen when you sit in a station and explore your options. Namely medical bays.. I see a new icon new to my eyes, I click and find out everything I can about it.

If this is all even true.. and I still believe you're BS'ing just to make some demented point about how harsh EVE can be to people that can't mentally handle it.. the first pod death should have clue'd you in. If it didn't.. reap what you sow.

To give losing your clone a meaning. Without your tears it would just be a little change in a big database.

I have died a thousand times and never shed a tear. That might be the reason why I don't have to insult other players.

Don't you know? It's the same reason you can't train two characters on the same account, and alts are encouraged so much. CCP are the ultimate griefers. :)

You lose skill because it's a fact of life as a pod pilot. As you gain new experiences you need to have a more capable clone in your pod to retain it all. If you decide to not maintain that edge, then you lose it. You decided to not maintain the edge (either through lack of reading the fine print, a conscious decision to save isk, or you just refuse to make isk and are poor).

Now get that civilian mining laser out and earn that isk! or shut up after you simply screwed up.
