There would be a purpose for such a ship if the Eve universe had more real world physics and if there was ever a time that you couldn't play the game solely using the overview. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Therefore, while neat and interesting it would serve only to tell your friends "Look what I can do!".

What else would you call a ship class that can change appearance depending on subsystems?
I'd certainly call it a shapeshifter of sorts.

We also already have a transformer - see Rorqual.

I would call those modular. Never actually seen it done, but rorqual is good example

T3s and the Rorqual are the closest we have to transforming ships. I don't think we need Voltron or Transformer style ships as the ones we design for EVE are made to fit a specific role. This would mostly be a graphical thing anyways cause you can quickly hop from one ship to another to meet your specific goals.

Although... A Battleship that transformed into an Interceptor would be pretty funny.....

how about a skill and highslot mod then?

how badly would something like this turn pvp inside out

A projection array mod for the high slot
it should be expensive and a gimp to any decent fit (like a cloak)
it should have scripts that define its attributes

the mod projects the appearance and d-scan of a ship that has higher mass, the script defines what ship you appear as, however you still retain all flight characteristics of the ship you are flying.
coming within 2k of an object breaks the effect

you could not make a larger ship appear smaller

probes will be able to see a true value

you could thusly and at some tactical expense pretend to be a bigger ship and totally mislead the opposition about your fleet comp.
this would bring in more need for fleet probers and really shake up fleet pvp Twisted

You guys could at least fix Rorqual, and dread siege entrance/exit animations not playing on any peoples computer but just the pilot :(

I liked the idea where bender goes back to the past in futurama and deploys 5 imitation ships of his own and confuses the hell outa them lol

A T3 Battleship-Transformer would be nice.

A ship that can perform multiple roles with a pre-loaded selection of modules.

For example:
Travel Mode - fast for a battleship but not much tank or damage
Battle Mode - High damage/ tank but cannot use warp drive, or anything that might involve a session change (docking, jumping through gates
EW/ Support mode - designed to assist other ships on the battlefield, (bonus to tracking or damage, resitance to jamming etc..), has to change to travel mode to warp, jump, or dock.

....as if 10,058 Goon voices cried out and were suddenly silenced.

Transformer not so much but would enjoy if ship engine nozzles can move as well as cargo/drone bay doors,windows reflection etc

As far as high slot module go i like it a lot and as i see it it would proly kill cloak as we know it today. let me wall-o-text here XD.

Active mimic module: T1 would clone your ship or any ship of class you are in,T2 would clone 2t1 ships or any T2 ship of class you fly,giving you chance of bailing or simply confusing the enemy.

Passive mimic module: ship is static cant move agility penalty/warp of delay but can mimic objects t1 can do rocks t2 can do anything in its size(look out towers/bunkers/generators etc)...so if you are playing rock at gate you are idiot but if you are at belt not so much.

For this to work(and the reason why it will never be ) asteroids need to be efin huge so there is space to hide/hunt and they need to be enveloped in thick gas cloud that will prevent probe to pinpoint ships,dir scan can tell you that there is smtn there npc frig/noob miner or fleet of blood thirsty pirates in bhaalgorns XD you need to take a looksy,in station gambling is so last year anyway Twisted

There should be some "ion burst launcher" fit able in high,aim with cam view hold launch for range and shoot bomb/burst have blast range that will clear some of cloud dust if ship was there red cross in overview target and kill.

Pretty much no more cloak it and forget it alts.

So what about real cloak modules well they become power hungry capital ship modules with few exceptions like black ops/t3/ops frig...so power hungry that it need sun to continue to operate no sun no cloak further away from sun ship will drain energy and decloak it self making it self kill target drained from energy and all.

so let shoot some numbers when there is no sun in system,ops frig can single charge of cloak that is good for 2 min ie go in warp to target drop cyno and GTFO if you can,T3 can have 5 min/capital have 15 and king off all would be black-ops new capital killer.

At this point local coming or going stops being an issue.

Anyway what was i sayin cant remember,fingers hurt tada.

I recall a "Voyager" episode regarding a Federation starship that would separate into two ships.

But.... will there every be bug ships, such as The Lexx?

cloak makes you not see ship in EVE. now, if only it could make you see... different ship (of course, in overview and scan, too). it's probably years old idea.

A module that can make a ship appear as an asteroid would be quite a lot of fun.
