Alliance/Corp name copyright

What would happen in real life if suddenly, someone would sell "C.O.C.A.C.O.L.A." ?

There would be a lawsue, and he would have to change his product's name.

How about some system that would allow alliances and or corporations who wish to protect their names to do so ?

Entity A could issue a copyright certificate to NPC's, and Entity B which has a, say 70%, matching name* would have three choices from there on :

- Buy the name, in which case entity A would be in the situation entity B was in.
- Pay loyalties to entity A.
- Don't give a **** and simply change it's name.

To buy a copyright, you would need to spend 25% more than the initial deposit. Entity A gets reimbursed it's deposit, the 25% are divided equally between the NPCs and entuty B's deposit. (ISK sink)

Loyalties could be 10% of the deposit per month, divided equally between entity A and the NPCs (another ISK sink).

The richest entities could protect their names easily.

Any entity could only own a single copy right, to prevent name brokering. (Except for executive corps of alliances which would own both the name of their alliance and the name of their corp).

* Software can do this. There are such matching words scripts in CAT tools.

Sounds horribly exploitable.

I've got a counter-proposal: wardec the corp with the offending name and grief them all into dropping corp for a new one.

Hard to put in practice if the other entity is at the other side of the universe...

If a group cares enough about their name, they can do it; if they don't care enough, they can get over it. *shrug* I'm not seeing any actual need for the ability to sue someone in-game, there's enough of that stupidity in real life.
