Why do you dislike the new item names?

Why is CCP trying to simplify what made EVE what EVE is?

I understand, it was hard to get it but once you get it, it felt so good. It was the EVE charm.
I want the EVE charm to come back with the original names. I mean DANG!

Part of what makes eve great is its learning curve and complexity acts as a natural barrier reef to little fish.

While making the game more "user-friendly' is nice, if you couldn't figure out the difference between a Scourge Heavy Missile and a Juggernaut Torpedo then EVE probably isn't for you anyhow.

95% of the players are loving EVE, the other 5%? On the forums.

Oh no, modules have sensible names now, now it's too intuitive and it makes too much sense and there's literally nothing left in EVE for new players to learn. Eve should be a pain in the ass for players to understand and learn, now that the names have changed there's nothing else to learn in the game and there's no longer a steep learning curve

Now we can expect there to be an influx of casual carebear pubbies taking over the game and making terrible posts on the forums- OH WAIT!

Old names were cool and sounded like spaceship components. New ones don't. The meta naming in this game, although technically inconsequential, does a lot to flesh out the world and experience of new eden.

Experimental Pulse Laser I / Heavy Anode Pulse Particle Stream I
Improved Tracking Disruptor I / F-392 Baker Nunn Tracking Disruptor I

Seriously, how can anyone think that totally unimaginative standardisation is a good thing?!

Because not everyone sits in front of their computer playing with little action figures of Captain Picard and Geordie LeForge discussing the module names on their ship.

"Captain! We need to reroute emergency power to the Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive!"
"Do you mean... overheat the MWD?"
"Yes Captain!"
"Make it so!"
*click*
"Oh Captain we're moving so fast now! I think I love you"
"Yes Geordie, I have always loved you too"
"Oh kiss me captain"
*smooch*smooch*
*bangs toys together in various positions*

When in conversation about ship fittings I don't really hear people refer to a module by it's name unless it's a faction/deadspace module. For every other module you only ever refer to the meta level. I'm most likely to hear the name of the module when someone asks wtf the name for the meta module is so they can find it on the market.

"minmatar cruiser 3 hits you with improved autocannon in system 4567"

yawn.

no action figures required. Oooh something I would pay nex for, a action figure of my toon. Lol

p.s. your quick sojourn from the realm of naming modules to an interracial homosexual relationship between star trek toys is mildly worrying.

I'm one of the freshlings who wandered into EVE after hearing how broad and harsh a MMO can be. I heard about EVE first time by that "Learning curve" image, and so far that is my understanding about this awesome game, deep and much harder to understand than any other MMO. After 2 million SP I feel I haven't scratched the surface.

That is what I like about EVE.

And I can't really say anything new about these names, makes more sense? Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive was just a MWD to me ;>

The new names are no better than the old ones

- the old ones blended in just fine
- the new ones sound stupid
- search an market orders are a mess now
- Scourge, as example, did mean kinetic AND heavy missile, meaning you know what you have there just by that one word, now, tell me what Trauma means, besides the trauma it causes in your head?!
- noobs dont have any advantage through this

But most importantly, you put in the new names to simplify the game (you did NOT), and get more players this way.
- you wont get any new players or make them stay longer because of these new names
- you allready lost way more players through this bullshit than you could ever dream of compensating with these kind of tweaks

And:

If you do more changes of this kind, you will lose a freakin lot more players than you will ever pull in again by making EVE "easy mode"!

For me, it's a matter of not liking change, and even though I'm not a RPer in game, the new names are pretty jarring, esp the AB/MWD names, since they don't even follow sensible word escalation (limited should not be better than protoype). It also took a while for me to learn the 1mn prop mods old names, and now I have to memorize them again?
As far as the Missiles go though, it's mostly a case of being attached to the old names. I'm still referring to kin heavies as scourges because I've been playing for 3 years and that's just what they're called. On top of that, scourge identified the missile by two categories, now you either look up dmg type or size, it's not as intuitive as it was before.

I think the answer to all this is a lot simpler then people want to talk about.

The guys at the top of the CCP food chain need to do these things from time to time.

Because it's needed? Nope.

Because it's helpful? Nope.

Because it will help retain new memberships? Nope.

The answer is ego and the need to make big enough changes so they can justify the large salaries they pocket out of the company.

I make the big decisions and that is why I make the big bucks. Now put cheese on that and add a zero to my check.

I like the new names.

Ive been playing for nearly 3 years, I can't remember what the hell all the meta names of modules are. Im sick of having to show info on each item or having to use the compare window.

If everything is uniform, it saves alot of time.

"Limited" makes a module sound worse than the meta-0 module.

1MN MicroWarpdrive I or Limited 1MN MicroWarpdrive I.

Which one gives me more POWERRRRRR?!

Please change back to the old names, the new ones are pathetic. And make the new "fancy" neocom an option not a must have. I don“t even want to log on anymore with that crap active. It is the first time after almost 8y of EVE that I am really pissed with their work. Crucible started so nice, but the latest patch really really stinks.

At least missile users are still slightly better off than turret users who have to look for "antimatter charge m"

My main complaint is the lack of novelty.

Lol... I don't even know what to type if this is a real argument... Do people actually feel this is a reason to fight the name changes? Typing speed? That's just funny.

Well, at least you made it to the end of your post.

I'm more in favor of a logical naming system that is both unique yet logical. OMG TOO MUCH TO ASK I KNOW, LETS ADD A CHAT ICON.
