Hello!

I have played eve 2 week trials like 4 times now thru the years. I am now committed to playing for the two weeks, and either signing up or getting a 60 day trial. Mostly due to the number, and directions of updates that keep coming up.

Anyways I always spend the entire first week trying to decide what to do and what I like, so I figured I would come out here and tell you all wonderful people what is it that I like and what is it that I want from the game, and hopefully some of you will have some insight that will help me make a choice that I won’t regret. (cause that’s happened)

Ok so I’m going to post this in bullets to make it easier to read/understand.

* The looks of ships is a huge deal to me, I prefer symmetrical shapes, but I can do with ships as long as they dont look like someone chewed a piece of gun, spat it out and said "Hey lets make that a ship!".

*I like to play on smaller faster ships, than bigger ones. So tech 2 frigates always interested me

*With the above said I also would like to have a really big ship one day, so having that prospect to look forward to and work on is very important. With some races like Minmatar there are ships like the Rifter that I love, but then there’s nothing to look forward to that I would want, their bigger ships all look like crap to me.

* As far as combat goes I like missiles a lot, but that’s not really a defining factor.

Well I know that there’s other things I should probably list for this question, but as people reply I'll answer more questions and we'll dig deeper in the choices. I hope that this will also help other new players on how to choose their races

PS: I know that there may be guides out there to help with this, I read some but really didn’t find that they helped, and in the end I felt like there wasn't one race that matched all the things I want, and while that may be true, I feel that talking to players is one way to align what I want with what is available.

First of all check the link in my signature, it leads to my guides and one of them talks about races, it might help you a bit.

Other than that, have a look at Caldari, their AFs are quite good with the buffs they just got. There's a missile and a turret version and both seem to be quite capable in their own right. All the other races look "weird" in some organic sort of way, Caldari is quite industrial looking.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

First off 60 day trials re no longer available, they were only valid to the 24th, however we can still throw ya 21 day trials :D

Second, the race you start with has no effect on what it is can or can't do with it so pick a race based on how you want the character to look or how you like a backstory or something.

Now on to your points...

-Probably Amarr

-The freshly returned assault ships sound perfect for you, I know I wanna try a Retribution again after it got a 2nd midslot :D

-Really can't go wrong with an Abaddon or a Bhaalgorn and then you have the Archon, Rev, and Aeon to look forward to. The Aeon is VERY unsymmetrical but we love it just the same.

-Every race has a stealth bomber but keep in mind that they're paper thin and are not meant for 1on1 PVP. You usually have something bigger to bait them and ten a small swarm of bombers jumps them.

Aside from the bombers Caldari is the major missile race, but a lot of the ship designs might not agree with you

for pretty symmetry, amarr is the only way to go.

lasers also look damned cool, need more work to use properly than missiles, but are much more effective at pvp.

amarr has missile boats notably the vengeance, the sacrilege, and the purifier, anything made by khanid, though they are by far a gun race.

The vengeance now actually does decent damage (around 100dps or so, not awesome but not the suck that it was before), uses missiles, and is a shiny black punisher, very symmetrical and very cool looking in general. not as fast as the rest of the assault frigates, but MWD bonus + weapons that don't rely on tracking is nice.

Pick the race which gives you the portrait you like the most.

That's LITERALLY the only thing your race will matter. Your starting race doesn't dictate what ships you can OR should use. You "lose" 2 points in your preferred racial frigate and 3 points in racial gun system (because you get those 2-3 points for the race you pick), that's it. It's a pathetic amount of SP.

I've been playing for a few days with my Gallente, and I'm already flying an Amarr Punisher.

Lets see if I got this right:

Don't know exactly what you want to do.
Enjoy small ships.
Have a thing for missles.

Get a Worm. It's a gurista ship that is gallente/caldari mix and uses missles and drones.
It is the jack of all trades frigate.

If that doesn't work for you look at what ship you want to end up with. Look at the navy and pirate faction ships too!
