Why do we pick politicians based on the promises they make?

Because, on the whole, people are stupid and lazy, and unwilling to actually look into an issue and see the talking heads have their own agendas and lie profusely, counting on all those sheep to just vote and repeat their lies. The state of American (and EU) politics right now are stellar examples of just that.

A vote for a Goon is like a vote for Hitler!

Possibly a bit keen but sentiments are well placed, but also surely too late?

Wasn't sure, I figured he/she would not pull the Hitler until after the election and the fire in the reichstagShocked Hence why I asked if I was too early?!

Maybe I am being paranoid here.
But I came to think. I am not exactly good at thinking, so I may be wrong.
With Lyris running for CSM (apparently against the will of mittens), with him posting about 6 threads within a short time on GD that bumped everything else to the bottom....
Could this all be a ruse by the right honorable Goonswarm Federation? Some political trick to keep them pubbies from organizing around one strong CSM candidate that might eventually become a danger to our respected CSM chairman's further political ambitions?
If I am right then kudos to Lyris for a job well done, good luck and endless amounts of coffee to keep it up until the CSM elections. You have completed Pubbie Whispering Rank 5, you may now learn Advanced Pubbie Whispering.
Should I be wrong, please excuse my suspicions, I never ment to soil the sterling reputation of the right honorable Goonswarm Federation and its loyal affiliates.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

No offense taken or intended, but you should know that The Mittani will win the chairman position in CSM7 regardless of whether or not anyone on the official EVE Online forums votes for him, simply by virtue of the Goonswarm/Clusterfuck Coalition voting bloc. He doesn't need me to snipe the competition, or page 3.

Well you see ... that's two things you are doing here:

1) Propagating the myth of The Mittani's invincibility

2) Working to pack the rest of the CSM with Goons, pets and allies. By running yourself and attempting to coopt the pubbie/hisec block for Goon.

You seem nice intelligent, reasonable and all but there is only one real choice:

Vote None ofthe Above!

I dunno, "Disband the CSM" is a pretty strong contender against you.

What's this "we" stuff? You got a frog in your pocket?

You'd have to have been living in Oz for quite some time if you believe promises in politics can be kept. Why do politicians make promises they know they can't keep? They must've seen the manifests for Oz's inbound flights.

I listen to them speak, and read what they pretend they wrote, to see if they have a modicum of a handle on their subject matter. As with the majority of Western Civ's population, the majority of them don't have a clue. Knowing this, what should I do, wave my magic wand and make them get real jobs?

The ones who are elected are supported because of the tailoring of their suits, the quality of their dental work and the flashiness of their jewelry...go Rolex! The pretense to taking a stand on "issues" (gesundheit) of the day, when everyone is so entrenched in their ideology and dogma as to be removed from reason is so ingrained, it's pure folly to make the assumption anyone is voting for a guy or gal because of something they said about an "issue" (gesundheit). So, don't pedal that crap here. People pretending to be concerned about specific issues, while really just pushing to see their overall social paradigm forced onto everyone else are just tracking it around the carpet.

I tried.

The result tells me that at least a significant portion of this player-base and this openly corrupt farce of a CSM bloody well deserve each other.

As well, cynical jester-like capering, leering, mugging, and trolling are just so much more fun than politicking when your nature is not inclined to suffer fools gladly and actually accomodate yourself to their bullshit.

While true and possibly unfair, it doesn't really matter.

Whatever your true intent is, added goon/null representation only serves to further unbalance the CSM while crowding out more independent candidates.

It is unsurprising that folk are leery of you, as americans might be of a Republican claiming to be both a party loyalist and a champion of organized labor. You just know that's not going to turn out well.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but that is how I see it. All trolling aside.

The only end-game content in EVE Online is the crap that makes you rage quit.
