I would have to tend to agree.
We the pvpers and lovers of tears and explosions....hehehe explosions have gotten many ships, many options and continue to get new ships. What do the miners get? Nothing besides a few expensive ships that have no defensive ability and are exceedingly easy to destroy with effectively no loss of our own considering the expense of the ship and moduals used. These ships introduced long ago......... We the people that depend on those whom we attack to make for us more ships to destroy attacking and defending ourselves and the ships we use to destroy those that give us that ability.

Industrialists need some love.

No amount of tank or gank is going to make up for not paying attention to what is going on around you. Miners get ganked because they don't get safe when hostiles show up, not because their ships are too easy to kill.

Already have that ship. It's called a Hulk.

Its always fun to blow something new up but that is not the point here.

The hulk takes absolutly forever to get off the line, take a fast frigate, DIC or something to that effect that can get in, get in warp and you can easily land and tackle before the hulk can get going. That is with an alined hulk and a pilot that is paying attention. Its not all that hard if you have good skills and are quick on your toes to catch a hulk or other fun to kill ships including battleships and battlecruisers. Hell its not that hard to catch alot of people if you set up right, get in and move your arse.

Hell lets be honest, a maxed out fat arse battleship is faster then a maxed out hulk and that is exceedingly sad. It should be on the scale of a really fat frigate for some of the small miners to cruiser size tank and speed which they don't come anywhere close to at this time. That gives them enough buffer and tank and speed to take on a belt rat which can currnelty destroy any of the industrialists short of a dedicated tank hulk and its still to SLOW!!!

Industrialists need some love, besides being extremally sad.....I mean slow and have no defense at all they only have a few ships. They need alot of love, more speed, more tank, mine more faster and some new ships and skills perhaps.

The total destruction of macro miners, some type of test that if failed would allow us to attack them perhaps?

On the second screen at work, I mine with my alt. I made about 35M ISK in 6 hours in hisec. I was in a hulk with a reasonable toon.

Of course, it would be fantastic to be in a fleet with an orca with T2 mining boosts and a mindlinked clone. I shall research getting into a corp which doesn't require me to be on voice comms while mining yet still lets me fleet my scrub miner up with their fat orca bonuses. This would nominally almost double my yield.

I would go to lowsec, but for two reasons - one, when my boss comes in the room I would have to alt-tab out and in that time I might get ganked. Two, one cannot imply wlk into Mordor - nor fit a cloak to a Hulk. The only resolution to this problem appears to be a mining Ferox with a cloak, and jetcan mine 2100m away from the jetcan.

I could sink SP's into this alt to get him astrometrics skill and send him off to find gravs in lowsec. This would give me a little more breathing space, as I would effectively be at a safespot. However, not sure that its worth the time invested in probing these out (if they exist close enough) and then have to use the Ferox anyway. No way in hell can a Hulk move through lowsec unmolested.

Should CCP make a ship which is meant for lowsec work? Oh, right, its called a Skiff, and its yield is 1/3rd that of any other ship. So you get a choice of having a warp strength enhanced ship which is terrible at its job; a mining BC/BS, or....

I mean, lowsec mining is such a niche it hardly gets done by anyone in a "professional" way. A couple of the ded-end systems, you'll see people doing it because they can monitor the gate.

But that's just lowsec. You don't need a new ship - you need better organisation. Though I do agree that the Hulk's align time is so atrocious it is a disaster.

Fly a BS with drone bonuses.
Put mining lasers in the highs.
Tank it out.
Use drones for offense.

It's one of the least profitable things in hisec, because if you do it right it is virtually risk free. Not even a log-on trap can get you if you are paying attention. I think some people are not understanding what it means to actually be aligned, and what that entails in relation to a stationary object. Combat pilots get it; too many miners are stuck at I WANT TO SIT HERE AND LASER THIS ROCK.

Mining can be extremely profitable even in something like an Osprey. The question is, where are you mining, who are you selling the proceeds to (and in what form), and what relation does that place and those customers have to other regions and markets.

Simple example; ass end of lowsec. Pirates live there. Pirates need equipment and supplies to yarr on people. They frequently cannot zip in and out of hisec where these things are cheap. You may not have a lot of buyers for trit, etc., out in the armpit of space, but you have a lot of demand for things like expanded probe launchers, probes, sensor boosters, smart bombs, etc. Enough demand for a 1000% markup over hisec. People won't just buy them, they'll often buy ALL of them at once. People making ISK like this are busy making ISK, not complaining on the forums that using a Hulk on Veld in 1.0 isn't profitable enough.

If you're a miner in hisec, you are sitting there surrounded by a giant pile of miners all racing to suck down the crappiest rocks in space and then sell them in the market with the lowest prices. It doesn't really matter how awesome your skills and ships and modules are, you are simply doing it in the least profitable place. It doesn't make sense to balance mining based the desire to make wild amounts of ISK in that environment, or to balance it around the desire for people to mine AFK or at work.

I feel dirty but I quite like the idea of a "Deep Space Miner"... Hulks aren't tanky enough to stop any determined attacker.

How about something that has less productivity than a T2 mining thingy, a bit more tank... and a warp strength bonus? Perhaps make it damn expensive too?
