So there have been a few threads lately about how alpha doctrines suck, blobbing sucks, and how everyone wants to be in that squad of interceptors you see in promo videos, zig-zagging in the midst of enemy battleships.

Here are a few ideas for tools I think would be really cool:

Fleet status window
Wouldn't it be great to see, at a glance, which pilots/ship types are tackled at a given moment? Your fleet is aligning out and you need to warp off. You have to make a decision, fast. Sacrificing your rifter newbros might be viable. Sacrificing your logi might not be. Currently, if you want to know who is tackled, you have to ask verbally. Having the information displayed in a status window would let you make a faster decision.

This status window could also show the fleets current composition, updating as people join and leave fleet, either by ship name or ship type (eg. Maelstrom: 50 - Rohk: 10 - Scimitar: 1 - Huginn: 5). Aren't you tired of having to filter out porn links just to count X's, or scroll around a friendly overview, just to find out how many scimitars you have?

Coordinate-based map of THE GRID
I envision a 3rd map at our disposal, and its segmented into 10km grid-cubes (like grid squares on a map, but 3 dimensional). This map would show only the grid you currently occupy. It could also show the location of various pilots/ entities you filter, such as FCs, wing commanders, squad commanders, or even particular pilots (maybe logi anchor?). It should also be able to show the enemy's positon in some manner, as long as those pilots are visible in space.

Perhaps you would be able to broadcast a particular grid-cube, which would make it glow a different color, to show your scout exactly where you want him to perch. It could display personal and corp bookmarks. It could allow you to brief your plan to a fleet before an engagement, showing how you want the fleet to kite, or where you want your recons to position themselves.


Just a few ideas. By all means leave feedback or feel free to contribute your own. Also dont even think about saying how this wouldn't be possible blah blah blah, this is the effing future.
