Machine Info and Settings

  • OS version: 10.6.8
  • CPU: 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
  • GPU: ATI Radeon 4870
  • RAM: 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3
  • How many clients were you running at the same time? 3
  • Graphic setting of the client (low / medium / high): Low

User Experience

  • Average FPS during fight at the gate in Poitot, with brackets disabled - Zoomed out: 3
  • Average FPS - Zoomed in: Did not attempt for fear that FPS would drop to less than 0.1.
  • On a scale of 1-10, how would you compare FPS and performance between this test and TQ? (1=way worse, 5=same, 10=OMG this is awesome) - 1, way worse. I do not participate in NullSec fleet battles, however.
  • Did you experience any disconnects or crashes? No crashes or disconnects.
  • Describe your experience, make comments, suggestions, etc.: The FPS of the client was bad enough that it was impossible for me to react to anything in a timely manner. Attempts to targetlock broadcasts would cause me to lock fleetmates instead as "Need Armor" broadcasts would push "Target" broadcasts out from under my mouse. Had this been an actual battle instead of a masstest, I may as well have not bothered showing up. It's worth noting that what the user can do is limited by the FPS, since the user must wait for interface elements to react to mouse movements or clicks in the next frame.

Perhaps for high-lag situations, graphics could be rendered as 1980s-style vector graphics, instead? Sometimes, users care about usability than whether or not it looks nice. (...and some of us old-timers probably think that 1980s vector graphics do look nice. :P )

had only one annoyance, and when I sorted the overview by distance, some ships at 50km would appear at the top, even though I had others much closer than that. Apart from this, it was a good test Cool

VM Size/D/TD: 1,422,824K/432K/17,744K
Resource Cache Usage : 32,100K/32,768K-1470 objects

Scale (1-10) : 6
no disconnects or crashes

minor complaint : the overview seems a bit laggy from displaying broadcasts and updating distances, i had similar problems in TQ when the overview just doesn't recognize broadcasts, this only happened to me once, i'll post a petition if it becomes frequent.

comments : in general the graphics doesn't put much strain on the playability (seeing this is only a test), even when all the effects are turned on, but the low framerate can be quite annoying and since TiDi doesn't kick in i can't comment much on them. But during a real fight when we actually going to 'lose' something, the FPS drop for midrange specced computers are far from adequate, we need at least 15 FPS in average just to follow the target broadcast and simple FC instructions like align. so in conclusion, we need an option to drop everything (the graphics) when needed, not just brackets.

suggestion : shortcut for quick disabling all shiney graphics (or to drop to the minimum graphic quality) or an ideal one would be an option to change the graphic mode to a dumber (far less shinier) one and back to the original settings when the engagement is done.

On a scale of 1-10, how would you compare FPS and performance between this test and TQ? (1=way worse, 5=same, 10=OMG this is awesome): 3. Ive seen better with 500 person tests.
Memory used by client: 1.3 to 1.4 Gig.
Did you experience any disconnects or crashes? No
Describe your experience, make comments, suggestions, etc.:

Had a large amount of client lag. Getting into warp would result in a 10 second pause where the client was totally locked up and unresponsive. Many times when I did a click, the client reacted as though I had clicked at the location the mouse was at a few seconds earlier.

What had the least lag was targeting and shooting. But navigating was almost impossible.

Switching overview tabs in the middle of the fight had only a small amount of client lag, a big improvement from past tests.

  • Describe your experience, make comments, suggestions, etc.: All went over all well, laggy ofc but doable. However I wasn't able to warp out from the gate camp setup to Planet 1, align was ok. When I tried to warp again I got "You cann't do that while warping". After that the FPS slowly decreased, about 5-10 min later I disconnected. (Still wasn't able to warp out altho with no error message, FPS below 1.0)

On a scale of 1-10, how would you compare FPS and performance between this test and TQ? (1=way worse, 5=same, 10=OMG this is awesome) 5, C5 sleeper battles don't get so graphically intensive but crucible really optimized the client so I can run more simultaneously, smoother.
Did you experience any disconnects or crashes? Yes, multiple on each client but offset so one client would crash then the other. Once while gathering before test, once when full-screening and windowizing with 5760x1200 eyefinity multiple times, once on warpin to POS, once on warpin to Poitot gate.

had a crash appon inital warp to gate, other than that ran rather smothly at time droping below 20fps but usually hovering at 40+

Did you experience any disconnects or crashes? had one client crash before inital gate jump while toying with some overlay settings mod placements and voice chat settings.

  • Average FPS - Zoomed in: 18 - 24 (okay to smooth) but much better to handle things

  • 4 but compared on my last experiences on SiSi, it has improved like 100% in speed (overall response time of modules, logging in, docking, everything, even heavy drone and wreck messed beacons)
TQ is still fast but run on those sexy servers Blink
  • Did you experience any disconnects or crashes?
  • None, but I got stuck at the end and had to withdraw. Bugreport is under investigation.
  • Describe your experience, make comments, suggestions, etc.:
  • First masstest, where I was able to do anything during the last fight in Poitot and could assist fleetmembers without any hassle.
Previous tests were so slow that I could just watch the clowd of ship shooting each other at 2.2 - 4 FPS.
Today way smooth and sexy and as far as I could see, we didn't even need time dilletation, or did I just miss it?
However, it was playable and really cool this time!

A note, the client used up to 1.6GB of memory during the fight in Poitot and went back to 1.12GB in 6-CZ49, which looks like a very good job in cleaning up the memory here, high five!

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!
