I'd be careful about the whole "playstyle" thing, it might give the impression to a newbie that they have to conform to one of these predetermined styles, when obviously that isn't the case at all.

How about including an Influence map somewhere on the front page to highlight how the sandbox truly player driven? It would help new players get a better understanding of Null-sec politics and further immerse them into the depths of the game. We hear about all of the large battles and invasions on the news page, but if you don't know who Goonswarm or Raiden is or what space they are based out of, it's just a cool story disconnected from a new player's personal experience. One look on a map showing who owns what space will tell you who has large influence in the game.

This does look very cool, I look forward to it, especially the community/fansite tools.

One minor concern though - have you given any thought to the fact that the front-facing EVEonline.com site might be so good with its ship-spinning and interactive sexiness that it will provide all the thrills of the actual game client without the need for a subscription. ;)

Damn after so MANY DAMN YEARS the site is getting a pretty big overhaul but i was wondering is there any chance with the new website forming up that we could add skills on the website rather then having to carry every single time 8GB of data with us just to insert a damn skillbook in the que? To be honest this is pretty harsh.. or if you have ANY plans to change that in the near future

ETA available for the new tattoos...?

Also, unless the 3D ship viewer is pulling data straight from the database, it'd be a good chance to incorporate ship crew 'lore'...
ie. from here... Ship crew table

HTML5 !

Both the star map and the ship gallery are using WebGL (through html5 canvas).

Cool

If I could swear on these forums I would. Instead I'll just say holy shootballs, cool!

Glad were moving forward technology wise.

Btw,

Any kind of asp is not cool tbh, I feel CCP should apply here the same philosophy capsuleers apply to choosing a ship, why choose any kind of asp when there's a lot better ;) (I know I know integration with the rest of the services already running in M$ platform is easier... :P)

What is this? A "Microsoft House" not using Silverlight?!?

(I fully approve the use of HTML5, by the way)

That's probably because HTML5 killed the 'radio star' ? :P (and thank god it did!)

tl;dr - we at the web team still neither play EVE, nor use the websites. You still won't be able to use the websites from within the igb, and all the useful tools of the website will be even further buried behind layers and layers of marketing and advertising. That is all.

Wow! I really love what you're doing with the main website. I think it's a huge improvement over the current one. New and potential players will surely find it much more enticing than what is currently available. I can't wait to see it when it goes live next week. Kudos!

I think you have a good point. Maybe in addition to including these awesome new playstyle screens, you can also include a page with a CCP version of the (player made?) "what to do in Eve" chart? I don't have the link, but I'm sure someone here can provide it.

Want to know what would be great, and really useful? A common login across all websites. I am tired of logging into the forums just to have to re-log into secure.eveonline.com or some other part of the site that requires me to log on. As a web developer myself I find it absolutely MIND BOGGLING that EVEs websites are so segregated like that.

It is just a free trial ad I believe... a slightly misleading one, but hey... marketing...

^this with timeline please Smile

Also I want to point devs on the problem with "DIN Condensed" font (if they plan to use it on new site) and cyrillic characters.
Example: fonts on http://trial.eveonline.com/ru/eveisreal.aspx are horrible. Text in [H2] and [p] tags is broken.
Please make sure things like this wont appear on localized pages. Straight
